A mild-mannered accountant accidentally picks up the wrong briefcase and discovers it is filled with lots of British pounds. Tired of the day-to-day grind, he decides to keep the money and immediately wants to depart for parts unknown.

Will his wife go along with the plan? How does he keep the news away from his best friends? Throw in the police, an impatient taxi driver, and the briefcase’s actual owner and an evening of hilarious theater is bound to ensue.

Town Players will stage Funny Money, Ray Cooney’s comedy outlined above, as its 2019 season opener. Gene Golaszewski is directing.

Chris Bird has been cast as Henry Perkins, the accountant whose honest mistake starts the whole adventure; Kimberly Marcus as Jean Perkins, Henry’s wife; Brian DeToma as Davenport, a detective sergeant who has seen it all and wants a piece of the action; Tom Torpey as Bill, a very resourceful cabbie; Thursday Savage as Betty Johnson and Peter Haynes as Vic Johnson, who are best friends with the Perkinses; Eric Greenfield as Slater, another police officer; and Tim Huebenthal as a passerby.

Performances are scheduled for Friday and Saturday evenings, May 17-June 8, at 8 pm; and Sundays, May 26 and June 2, at 2 pm.

There is also a special Thursday evening performance scheduled for June 6. Curtain is 8 pm.

Tickets are $25 for Friday and Saturday evenings and $20 for the matinees and Thursday evening performances.

Reservations are available at newtownplayers.org or by sending e-mail to reservations@newtownplayers.org. Online reservations will require a credit card. E-mail requests should include the date and number of tickets being requested. Cash, check, or credit card will then be required at Will Call.
