Track And Field Teams Win In Opening Meets At Blue & Gold Stadium

Newtown High School's girls' and boys' track and field teams won their season-opening meets, against Notre Dame-Fairfield, New Fairfield, and Pomperaug of Southbury, at Blue & Gold Stadium, on April 9 and 10, respectively.

The girls defeated Notre Dame-Fairfield 147.5-1.5, New Fairfield 123-27, and Pomperaug 97-53.

Winners are as follows:

4x100 relay, Brianna Lovely, Carly Swierbut, Emma Curtis, and Katie Ryan 51.1.

Sweirbut in the 100 meter in 12.5 seconds; and 200 in 25.2.

Grace Pettinelli in the 400 in 63.4.

Sarah Dowling in the triple jump, 29-foot-4.

Sarah Tressler in the high jump, 4-10.

Katie Ryan in the pole vault, 8-6.

Marley Marston in the javelin throw, 95-1; discus 81-9; and shot-put 32-11.5.

The boys defeated Notre Dame 137-12, New Fairfield 125-24, and Pomperaug 88.5-60.5.

Winners are as follows:

Zach Crebbin in the high jump with a PR of 6-4.

Ryan Williams in the discus with a throw of 133; and javelin with a PR of 158-7.

4x800 relay, Christian Lestik, Ryan Escoda, Joel Duval, and Nick Jacobs, 8:22.9.

Grant Moxham in the 400, 53.4.

Brett Deri in the 300 hurdles, 41.5; 110 hurdles, 15.4; and 200, 23.6.
