With copies of recipes from the book Make It Fizz: A Guide to Making Bathtub Treats by Holly Port beside them, Cyrenius H. Booth Library Young Adult Librarian Kim Weber and library clerk Terry Tortora led a group of local students in a lesson on chemical-free beauty products Wednesday, March 22.

An announcement for the event offered local students a chance to "treat yourself" by making relaxation and rejuvenation bath treats.

The scents of cocoa butter and lavender filled the library's meeting room as the group worked. The "Bath Bombs and Sugar Scrubs" interactive presentation was open to sixth to ninth grade students. Throughout the roughly one-hour event, Ms Weber and Ms Tortora helped the students make bath bombs - an effervescent "scent-sation" for the tub - before making sugar scrubs.

Students took turns adding ingredients for the bath bombs, and the group voted to choose lavender as the scent for the creations.

Later, Ms Weber made smoothies as a snack, and the participants received recipes to make other products at home.
