The Newtown High School Marching Band & Guard is partnering with Custom Fundraising Solutions (CFS) to hold its fourth annual Mattress Fundraiser on June 1, from 10 am to 5 pm, in Newtown High School’s main cafeteria, 12 Berkshire Road. Every purchase from the sale will benefit the Marching Band and Guard program.

According to NHS Band and Guard Parents Corporation President Laura Taylor, the fundraiser will work just like a mattress store, with professional salespeople to help customers find the right mattress. More than 20 mattress sets will be available to try before buying. Customers will order, schedule delivery, and once delivered, CFS can take the old mattress away. CFS is a national company, and it can ship almost anywhere in the country.

“The reason CFS is able to offer such low prices is because the Band and Guard does all of the promotion, so no ad costs are involved, and holding the sale at the school cafeteria means no store front costs are passed on to customers,” Ms Taylor said.

All sizes of mattresses will be available in name brands such as Serta and Simmons Beautyrest. Types of sets available are firm, pillow-top, orthopedic and latex, and gel memory foam. All mattresses are brand-new with full factory warranties. Adjustable beds, luxury pillows, and mattress protectors will also be available.

All school and town employees and their families will get $100 off any set over $499 and $50 off any set under $499.

Following the mattress sale on June 1, the award-winning NHS Blue and Gold Jazz bands will perform from 7 to 9 pm in the NHS main cafeteria at an “I Scream For Jazz” event. The $10 tickets, sold at the door, will include ice cream, coffee, desserts, and an evening of jazz. Funds raised go towards the production of a professionally recorded CD of the NHS Gold Jazz Band and pre-orders will be available.

The 2019 fall season of the NHS Marching Band & Guard is just around the corner. An information session and orientation will be held on Wednesday, June 5, at 6:30 pm, in the NHS cafetorium. This is a mandatory meeting for all new and returning student members and parents. Newtown students entering seventh to twelfth grade are invited to attend with their parents to learn more about the program. Visit newtownbandandguard.weebly.com online for more information.
