Two Tauntons

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Taunton Lake Road and Taunton Hill Road about 4:13 pm March 16.

Motorist James Marron, 25, of 19 Farrell Road was driving a 2002 Jeep Wrangler SUV westward on Taunton Lake Road and then stopped at a stop sign at its intersection with Taunton Hill Road, police said.

Motorist Erica Shaker, 44, of 5 Possum Ridge Road, who was driving a 2004 Honda CRV SUV, then stopped behind the Jeep, police said.

In order the clear the intersection for other traffic in the area, Marron then backed up the Jeep, but in doing so, he backed the Jeep into the front end of the Honda, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Marron a written warning for unsafe backing.

DUI Warrant

Police report that after learning that they held a warrant for his arrest, Antoni Kogut, 53, of Shelton turned himself in at the police station on the afternoon of March 18 and was charged with four offenses in connection with a motor vehicle accident last fall on Meadow Brook Road.

Police said they charged Kogut with driving under the influence, evading responsibility, making a restricted turn, and driving without automotive insurance.

Police have said that at about 5:20 pm on November 17, Kogut was driving a 1995 Chevrolet Tahoe SUV eastward on Meadow Brook Road when the SUV struck a utility pole along the right road shoulder. Kogut then attempted to drive away from the accident scene, but stopped the vehicle near 24 Meadow Brook Road, according to police. Following the collision, Kogut was transported to Danbury Hospital.

After arrest processing on March 18, police released Kogut on $200 bail for an April 1 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Items Stolen

Sometime between March 4 and March 17, someone stole a stump-cutting machine and a trailer from Amaral Motors, Inc, at 40 South Main Street (Route 25), police said. The crime is first-degree larceny which represents the theft of items worth more than $20,000. Police are investigating and ask anyone with information on the incident to contact them at 203-426-5841.

Drug Charges

Police report that they charged two people with drug offenses following an incident on Queen Street late on the afternoon of March 19.

Police report that motorist Amber Hoyt, 19, of Monroe was driving a vehicle near the northern end of Queen Street that did not have a front marker plate on it, so they stopped her to investigate.

Police said they then searched the vehicle with the aid of their German shepherd who located several bags of marijuana, three marijuana pipes, and six pills of a substance believed to be the illicit drug known as ecstasy.

Consequently, police charged Hoyt and a passenger, who is under age 18, each with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana, possession of a hallucinogenic substance, and possession of drug paraphernalia. The identities of people under age 18 who are charged with crimes are shielded from disclosure by state law.

Both people were released on written promises to appear in court. Hoyt is slated to appear in Danbury Superior Court on April 6. The unidentified person was referred to Danbury Youthful Offender Court.

Culvert Crash

Motorist Sean LaPak II, 17, of 30 Greenbriar Lane was driving a 2006 Subaru Baja pickup truck eastward on Brushy Hill Road, near its intersection with Elm Drive, about noon on March 13, when he encountered some gear-shifting problems with the vehicle’s manual transmission, police said.

The truck drifted off the road to the right and then collided with the end wall structure for a drainage culvert, after which the truck’s undercarriage became hung up on an adjacent earthen embankment, police report.

Neither LaPak nor two passengers were injured in the crash, police said.

LaPak was driving the truck with a learner’s permit and with a licensed driver in the vehicle with him as required by law, police said.

Police said they verbally warned LaPak for making an improper turn.

Church Hill Road

About 7 pm on March 7, motorist James Boyle, 45, of 5 Meadow Road, who was driving a 2007 Honda Civic sedan, was stopped at a red traffic signal at the intersection of Church Hill Road and the Exit 10 ramps for westbound Interstate 84, police said.

Motorist Raymond O’Marra, 55, of Danbury, who was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Impala sedan, then struck the rear end of the Honda, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned O’Marra for following too closely.

Passenger Restrictions

Motorist Samantha Dinnan, 17, of Lake Road was driving a 2010 Toyota sedan carrying four passengers northward near 12 Berkshire Road about 2 pm on March 19, police report.

The Toyota stopped due to heavy traffic in the area and was then struck from behind by northbound motorist Tara Krehel, 17, of Sugar Lane who was driving a 2003 Hyundai sedan carrying one passenger, police report.

There were no injuries. Police said that Krehel was following too closely. Police said they issued both Krehel and Dinnan infractions for violating vehicle passenger restrictions.

Sandy Hook Center

Motorist Patricia Montgomery, 63, of Danbury was driving a 1991 Mitsubishi vehicle eastward near 99 Church Hill Road about 9:30 am March 20, when she stopped in order to make a left turn into a driveway, but was then hit from behind by eastbound motorist Anthony Lassauze, 51, of Woodbury, who was driving a commercial 2002 Ford vehicle, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Lassauze a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

DUI Accident

Police report that motorist Jermaine Billie, 38, of Danbury was driving a 1996 Saab 900-S eastward on Glen Road about 9:40 pm March 20, when he attempted to make a left turn onto Walnut Tree Hill Road, but instead went off the road and struck some metal-beam guardrailing.

Billie was not injured in the accident.

Police said that after investigating, they charged him with driving under the influence, driving while under suspension, and making a restricted turn.

After processing, police released Billie on $500 bail for an April 6 court appearance.

Toyota Vs Ford

About 8 am on March 16, motorist Veronica Bickelhaupt, 47, of Woodbury, who was driving a 2010 Ford Escape SUV westward on Interstate 84, near Exit 9, encountered heavy stop-and-go traffic, state police said.

Bickelhaupt stopped the Ford and was struck from behind by westbound motorist Theresa Zirglis-Morgan, 56, of Southbury, who was driving a 2001 Toyota Camry sedan, state police said.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Audi Hits Rails

Motorist Lindsey Sullivan, 22, of Southbury was driving a 2001 Audi A-6 eastward on Interstate 84, near Exit 11, about 7:30 pm March 14, when she lost control of the vehicle and it veered to the right, striking some metal-beam guardrailing on the right road shoulder, state police said.

Sullivan was not injured. Enforcement information was not available.

 

South Main Rollover

Motorist Christopher Diaz, 27, of Danbury was driving a 1999 Buick sedan southward near 350 South Main Street in wet conditions about 6:39 am on March 23, when while attempting to negotiate a curve in the road, the auto hydroplaned out of control and then struck some soil along the right road shoulder, causing the vehicle to flip over onto its roof, police said.

Diaz, who was wearing a seatbelt, was not injured, police said. Botsford firefighters responded to the accident. Police issued Diaz an infraction for traveling too fast for conditions.

Vandalism

Police report that sometime between 2 am and 11 am on March 21, someone intentionally damaged windows at Stratford Hall and Plymouth Hall at the town-owned Fairfield Hills core campus. The damage constitutes third-degree criminal mischief.

Police ask anyone with information on the incident to contact Officer John McCluskey at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Mt Pleasant Road

About 6:40 am on March 16, while driving a 2000 Chevrolet Impala sedan westward on Mt Pleasant Road, near Tory Lane, motorist Richard Holland, 61, of Naugatuck encountered a deer that suddenly entered the roadway and collided with the auto, police said.

Holland was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Warrant

Police report they arrested Tina Haskell, 25, of West Haven on a warrant on March 23, charging her with second-degree failure to appear in court, sixth-degree larceny, and conspiracy to commit fourth-degree larceny.

Police said the larceny and conspiracy charges stem from an alleged shoplifting incident at the Super Stop & Shop supermarket at Sand Hill Plaza at 228 South Main Street in September 2008.

After arrest processing, police released Haskell on $1,000 bail for an April 6 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Madison Drive

Police report that a burglary occurred at a home on Madison Drive sometime during March 18. Madison Drive is a residential side street extending from Sugar Street (Route 302). An unknown person or persons entered the residence and stole some items from within. Police are investigating the incident and ask anyone with information about it to contact them at 203-426-5841.

Youth Arrested

Police report that after learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, a boy under age 18 went to the police station on March 24 and was charged with traveling too fast for conditions and also with driving a motor vehicle without a license/second offense.

The arrest stems from a motor vehicle accident that occurred about 2 am last October 17 on Alberts Hill Road.

In that accident, a 16-year-old boy was driving a 2005 Saturn Vue SUV westward on Alberts Hill Road when the vehicle went off the road’s right shoulder entered a wooded area, struck a tree, and then overturned. All four teenage occupants were able to exit the vehicle, police have said. The driver received chest and neck injuries from the vehicle’s seatbelt. A 15-year-old male rear-seat passenger received facial, head, and shoulder injuries, according to police.

The two other passengers, who are a 14-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl, left the accident scene before emergency personnel arrived. Both passengers were later located and had received minor injuries in the crash.

The driver was driving the vehicle with a learner’s permit and without the required supervision of a licensed driver, police have said.

After processing the youth’s arrest on March 24, police released the boy on a written promise to appear on April 12 in Danbury Youthful Offender Court. Police declined to disclose the boy’s identity because he is under age 18.
