Unsafe Backing

State police report that trucker Mario Dealmeida, 23, of North Miami Beach, Fla., was driving a 1991 International truck eastbound on Interstate 84 when he realized that he had missed Exit 11, so he backed up to the exit, but in doing so got the truck stuck on a bridge abutment about 6 am April 28.

Dealmeida was not injured. State police issued him an infraction ticket for unsafe backing.

Toyota Crash

State police report motorist Fidelina Chireno, 42, of Waterbury, who was driving a 1990 Toyota Corolla eastbound on Interstate 84 east of Exit 9 about 9:45 pm April 28, attempted to move from the center lane to the left lane, but swerved to avoid another vehicle, lost control of the Toyota, and went underneath guardrailing on the highway median.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Chireno to Danbury Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, state police said. State police said Chireno made an unsafe lane change.

Toy Store Break

Police said they learned at 12:13 am April 30 that a burglar alarm had been triggered at KB Toyworks at 228 South Main Street at Sand Hill Plaza.

On arriving, police found an open door. A glass display case within the store had been broken and a video game machine and 15 game cartridges had been stolen, police said. The stolen goods are valued at $920.

Police are investigating the burglary/larceny.

Moving Violations

Police said they stopped motorist Christopher Anderson, 21, of Flat Swamp Road, Dodgingtown, for driving fast on Riverside Road in Sandy Hook about 8:20 pm May 2.

Police said they charged Anderson with traveling too fast and operating a motor vehicle with a suspended driver’s license.

Police released Anderson for a May 14 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
