Upbeat & Down Under WithDanbury Brass

DANBURY — The Danbury Brass Band will present its next concert of the 2000 season on Friday, October 13. The performance will begin at 8 pm at Danbury Music Centre, 256 Main Street. There is no admission charge.

The program will be titled “The Australian Connection,” after its featured premiere of a piece for brass band and didgeridoo by composer and guest soloist Alan Raph.

Also on the program will be soloist Phil Leslie’s premiere of a Corelli transcription for trumpet and brass band, Celtic Suite by Philip Sparke, plus selections from other favorite composers, including Aaron Copland, Dmitri Shostakovich and Vincent Youmans.

The Danbury Brass Band presents concerts regularly for the western Connecticut area and frequently performs in New York City, New Jersey, Massachusetts and Bermuda. Its unique repertoire of well over 100 pieces has been gathered, throughout its 16 years of existence, from world-class international and local composers and arrangers.

For further information, contact music director Alan Raph at 746-4222.
