Virginia Polena Morcone, of Fairfield, beloved wife of Joseph Morcone, died in St Vincent’s Medical Center, May 10, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Worcester, Mass., she was the daughter of the late Themistokli and Pandora Buzi Polena.

Cherishing her memory are her husband of 54 years; a daughter, Victoria Cryder, and her husband Jeffrey, of Newtown; a son, Christopher Morcone of Fairfield; two grandchildren; a sister, Marion “Millie” Patria, and her husband Joseph; a sister-in-law; and several nieces and nephews. Her brother, George Polena, predeceased her.

Ms Morcone worked for many years alongside her husband at Morcone’s Pharmacy.

She was a member of St George Orthodox Church, where she was active in the choir and a past member of the Teuta Ladies Society. Ms Morcone also was a 25-year volunteer at St Vincent’s Medical Center, and was an avid reader. Those who knew and loved her will remember her sharp wit and her life-of-the-party sense of humor. She was the spirited family leader who especially loved having her son and daughter so close to home, and lived to spend time with her two grandchildren.

Friends are invited to meet directly at St George’s Orthodox Church, Trumbull, Thursday, May 16, at 10:30 am. Interment will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery, 1530 Bronson Road, Fairfield. Family and friends may call Wednesday, May 15, from 4 to 8 pm, at the Abriola Parkview Funeral Home, 419 White Plains Road, Trumbull.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St George’s Orthodox Church, 5490 Main Street, Trumbull CT 06611, and St Margaret’s Shrine, 2523 Park Avenue, Bridgeport CT 06604.
