The Connecticut-based gun violence prevention organizations and their supporters will walk from Newtown Middle School to Mile High Road and back to the middle school to raise awareness of the public health crisis of gun violence in America.

This rally is one of many happening across the country for the #WearOrange campaign centered around National Gun Violence Awareness Day.

Speakers on Sunday will include

*Senator Richard Blumenthal;

*Senator Chris Murphy;

*Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont;

*Newtown First Selectman Dan Rosenthal;

*Mike Song, father of 15-year-old Ethan Song, who died in an unintentional shooting;

*Natalie Barden, Jr Newtown Action Alliance, sister of Daniel, who was killed in the Sandy Hook tragedy;

*Tara Donnelly Gotlieb and Riley Deloughy, Moms Demand Action; and

*Jeremy Stein, Connecticut Against Gun Violence.

The Wear Orange Campaign and National Gun Violence Awareness Day was inspired by Chicago teens who refused to be silent in the face of gun violence after their 15-year-old friend, Hadiya Pendleton, was killed by a stray bullet days after performing at President Obama’s second inauguration. June 2 was her birthday; they selected orange because it is the color used by hunters to protect themselves.

Sandy Hook Promise (SHP) is a national nonprofit organization based in Newtown and led by several family members whose loved ones were killed in the tragic mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School on December 14, 2012.
