Weir Farm NHS Announces Spring Visitor Center Hours And Tours

WILTON — Weir Farm National Historic Site’s visitor center has reopened, and tours have resumed, for the spring season.

Through April 30, the visitor center will be open Thursdays through Sundays from 10 am to 4 pm. Guided tours of the landscape and artists’ studios will be offered at 11 am and 2 pm on days that the visitor center is open.

On Sunday mornings at 11 am, the park will also have ranger-led guided tours of the stone walls.

Admission to all programs is free.]

The grounds of Weir Farm National Historic Site are open to the public year round from dawn to dusk. Spring use of the grounds can include snowshoeing, cross-country skiing (there are no groomed trails), nature photography, hiking and painting.

The main entrance for Weir Farm National Historic Site Visitor Center is at 735 Nod Hill Road in Wilton; the property actually straddles the Wilton-Ridgefield border.

Weir Farm National Historic Site is the only national park in the country dedicated to an American painter. The site preserves the summer home and workplace of Julian Alden Weir (1852-1919), a leading figure in American art and the development of American Impressionism. The Weir House, Weir and Young studios, farm buildings and landscape constitute the finest remaining landscape of American Impressionism.

For over 120 years, the 18th Century farm has been used continuously by artists, including Mahonri Young and Sperry Andrews, and remains a haven for contemporary artists.

This year marks the 125th anniversary of Weir’s purchase of the farm in 1882, which will be celebrated by a number of upcoming events. For current information about the park and about the variety of special events and programs offered throughout the year, call 203-834-1896 or visit www.nps.gov/wefa.
