WILDCATS 3, HURRICANES 0: Hurricanes’ center forward Melissa Paynter and midfielder Laura Nadriczny led their offense on several sorties against the Wildcat goal. But strong play by Wildcat midfielder Tilly Philbrick and defender Ginelle Gaulin-McKenzie blunted their attack. In spite of the great efforts by Hurricane defender Elizabeth Cole, Wildcat forward Aileen Kerns just seemed to have a magnet on her foot, always drawing the ball to her and constantly finding an opening for her three-goal effort.

HORNETS 2, EAGLES 1: The Hornets drew first blood in an evenly matched contest. Colleen Murphy took a ball and slipped through the Eagle defense to get a shot past Jessica Holleran. From there however, the Hornets – led by Jessica Neufeld and Stephanie Soder – were stymied by defense from Michelle Kukla and Emily Lockhart of the Eagles. Hornets goalie Mallory Webb successfully blunted several Eagle offensive forays until Shayna Mesko scored right before intermission to knot the score. Steady Hornet defense from Lauren Gorski and goaltender Olga Virgallakept the game tied until Kate Coster started a surge that ended when Erica Federman tapped home a goal won the game and sent her team to the ice cream parlor.

BOYS C/D

EAGLES 4, EGGBEATERS 3: Ryan Golankiewicz (2) and Danny Tichon (2) scored the goals that lifted the Eagles to the win. Danny Lawrence and John Burns also played very well. Golankiewicz – on his birthday – scored the winner with less than a minute to play. For the ‘Beaters, P.J. Cochrane, Adam Camerron-Braley, and Zach Schwartz scored the goals and Ryan Peters had an assist.

BOYS E

ALL STARS 6, NIGHTMARE 1: Tyler Edward scored three goals and Jacob Dauz scored twice to lead the All Stars to the win. Richard Andreotta scored once. Grant Braun was strong in goal while Jordan Mathurin was solid on defense. For the Nightmare, Tony Vacaro scored off an assist from Eric Thornberg. Stephen Ashbolt, Oskar Dean, Jacob Barrett and Mitchell Loboglio played well.

DOGNABBERS 6, DESTROYERS 2: Spencer Scott and Daniel Lynch scored two goals apiece while Zach Dent and Stephen Musco each scored once to lead the Dognabbers to the win. Tim Wilmott and Ian Archer were solid in goal. For the Destroyers, George Zaruba had a pair of goals as Timmy Lacouture, Eddie White and Xaulilo Hililli played well.

DOGNABBERS 5, TERMINATORS 0: Stephen Musco and Spencer Scott scored two goals apiece as the Dognabbers blanked the Terminators. Daniel Lynch had one goal. Patrick Fay and Shane Casey were strong in the midfield. For the Terminators, Dufner and Reynolds played well.

GIRLS E

BOOMERANGS 4, TORNADOES 0: Monica Warek and Laura Bittman scored two goals apiece to lead the Boomerangs to the win. Kristen Hudock and Marnie Thompson had strong performances. For the Tornadoes, Meghan Wilson, Michelle Rahtelli and Molly Day played well.

GATORS 2, LIGHTNING 1: Mary Bloshuk and Kelsey Hopper scored one goal each as the Gators trimmed the Lightning. Meghan Bridges, Alyssa Buda and Tori Boushell played well. For the Lightning, Allison Lehrer scored the lone goal while Lindsey Lively, Meredith LaPerch and Kara Brown all played well.

HURRICANES 2, LIGHTNING 0: Emily Floros converted a beautiful pass from Megan Carney into the first goal for the Hurricanes. Nora Murphy scored late in the fourth quarter while Jessica Gorski led the Hurricanes’ defensive effort. Lauren Faeth, Michelle Salem, Amanda Stanton and Samantha Wray played well for the Lightning.

 

BOYS F

 

WOLFPACK 4, TEAM (#7) 2: Colin Cooper scored a pair of goals to lead the Wolfpack past Team #7. Thomas Murphy and Paolo Moscovici also scored. Chad Cullens had a pair of assists. For Team #7, Ashwin Ramaswami scored both goals. Oliver Powers led the defense.

WOLFPACK 6, NIGHTHAWKS 0: Thomas Murphy scored three goals while Josh Barrett, Colin Cooper and Timmy Roberts scored one apiece to lead the Wolfpack. Keegan Lombard was strong in goal. For the Nighthawks, Brian Olszenski and Johnny Kerins led the offense and Cole Baldino anchored the defense.

ROADRUNNERS 2, WILDCATS 0: Douglas Brede and Nicholas Dee each scored goals off of assists by Chris Haylon to lead the Roadrunners to victory. Matthew Vavrek and Michael Greenwood played great on offense for the Wildcats. Yanni Koutmos excelled on defense and Mac Morlock did a superb job in goal. For the Roadrunners, Marcus Toms and Vincent Brophy both had great all-around games.

WOLFPACK 0, VELOCIRAPTORS 0: An awesome defensive effort by both teams held this game scoreless. For the Wolfpack, Kevin Dennis and Zack Baudisch led the offense while Chad Cullens and James Radcliffe anchored the defense. For the ‘Raptors, Conrad Normann and Carter Law did great job on offense as Max Eckert and Derek Cruson played very well on defense.

GIRLS F

DOLPHINS 0, TORNADOES 0: The Dolphins and Tornadoes played to a scoreless tie , behind the strong defenses of both teams. For the Dolphins, Molly Sheluck, Julia Klucik, Jennifer McDonald and Jessica Cash all played well. The Tornadoes’ Katie Burns, Erica Green, Meaghan Larsen and Colleen Cunningham all had good games.

DEFENDERS 4, NIGHTHAWKS 0: Leah Barrett and Casey Rutter both scored twice to lift the Defenders to a 4-0 victory. Kelsey Karp , Katie Shirley, Emma Iannini and Emma Kingsley all played strong to secure the win. The Nighthawk’s Caitlin O’Mahoney, Meredith Bridges and Nicole Davis played well.

BOYS U10

RAPTORS 1, SOUTHBURY 0: Adam Buccino scored the game’s only goal early in the first half with an assist from Daniel Greenwood. The Raptors saw strong play from Andy Lapple, Eric Keogler, Chris McCann and Jeff DiNicola. Matt Iassogna and Daniel Greenwood proved to be strong defenders as goalies.

GIRLS U10

RAMPAGE 3, BROOKFIELD 0: Chelsea Fay scored three goals to lead the Rampage past Brookfield. Fay scored on a long, hard shot in the first half and then chopped a beautifully-placed shot over the goalie in the second half. Fay nailed the last score with a nice shot on goal during intense pressure put up by Ellen Ritzinger, Caleigh Boyle, Kristen Tanner and Melissa Schreiber. Hannah Basch-Gould, Bernice Bryant and Laetitia de Brantes moved the ball well and goaltie Katie Pessin was solid in the net. The Rampage are 4-3-1.

BOYS U11

NEWTOWN 9, GLASTONBURY 0 (State Cup): Connor Collier, Chris Parker and Andrew Meisel led the way with two goals apiece. Andrew Domingos, Max Paynter, Daniel Kowarick also scored for the Nightmare. Domingos and Meisel contributed two assists as well. Ethan Carrotti played well in midfield, while the defense was anchored by Daniel Quinn and Michael Kearns. Jason Kostecki preserved the shutout with some big saves.

NEWTOWN 9, SHERMAN 1: Andrew Domingos and Andrew Meisel scored twice for Newtown, which remained unbeaten. Connor McManus, Chris Parker, Mickey Fay, Connor Collier and Curt Nacewicz also scored for the winners. John Gouveia and Ryan Gooridge had solid games for Newtown. Chris Marks and Joe Cappiello  played well  defensively. Daniel Quinn and Jason Kostecki had strong games in the net.

GIRLS U11

HURRICANES 5, NORTHEAST CONNECTICUT 1 (State Cup): The Hurricanes defeated North East Connecticut to stay on track for the State Cup. Nora Lynn Shimko put the Cane’s on the board first. Kelley Sullivan, Tania Domingos, Kasey Schulz and Katie Serok each planted solid shots into the opponents net. Despite the high score, NECONN didn’t lie down. Keeper Cassie David and her solid defense of Molly Curry, Jen Brewer and Colleen Thornberg rose to the occasion and turned back most of what the visitors could muster.

HURRICANES 6, WATERTOWN 0: Nora Lynn Shimko again got Newtown’s scoring started with Tania Domingos, Adelle Cerreta, Megan Hansen and Genna Scheuerell each adding to the Cane’s total. Nora Lynn added another goal late in the second half. Emily Weber, Sarah Shannon and Haley Keane provided added pressure to the Newtown cause. Cassie David and company turned in another solid performance on defense for Newtown’s seventh shutout of the season.

GIRLS U12

SOUTHBURY 4, NEWTOWN 1: Newtown led, 1-0, after a first-half score by Jackie Schulz and solid goaltending from Katie Powers, but Southbury broke the game open with two goals in the final three minutes. Rachel Maley, Julie Landin, Jackie Petrasanta and Claire Ober all played well.

BOYS U12

VIPERS 2, NEW MILFORD 0 (State Cup): The Vipers had dominated New Milford in league play, but this State Cup match would prove to be different. Nick Kallivrousis ands Chris Schreiber both played well outside for Newtown and while ball possession seemed to be switching back and forth, the Vipers out shot the Galaxy 10-2 in the first half, but none got past the keepers. Danny Smith was superb in the net for Newtown, and continued the shutout into the second half. Chris Meier, Drew Taylor and Justin Miller all helped to control the midfield as Max Hoagland and Paul Andras pressured the Galaxy defense. Alex Bowen scored Newtown’s first ball and that was the spark that the Vipers needed. Soon after Anthony Florez netted another as Newtown went on to win 2-0 and advance into the “Sweet Sixteen” round of the State Cup.

VIPERS 5, NEW MILFORD 1: Newtown defeated New Milford in division play, but the Galaxy gave the Vipers a difficult game. Ethan Canfield and Anthony Florez each scored twice while Chris Meier volleyed in his first score of the season. New Milford scored its goal in the first half tying the match. Newtown took control of the second half with dominating defense by Kevin Davies, Sean Weir and Mat DeBrantes. Danny Smith tended the net for the Vipers throughout the match.

GIRLS U13

WETHERSFIELD 3, NITROS 0 (State Cup): The Nitros were bounced out of State Cup play, losing 3-0 at home. The offense, led by Erica Vacaro and Rachael Eastman, made a number of shots, but failed to net any. The defensive trio of Shannon Kirch, Jen Iassogna, Heather Young and goaltender Sarah Gutbrod made strong defensive plays and saves, but yielded scores scores in the last half.

GIRLS U14

ROCKETS 6, FAIRFIELD 3 (State Cup): Alex Konneker started the show by punching home a far post shot. Maria Cinquegrana followed by blasting in a goal from near point-blank. Fairfield, however, failed to take the hint and scored its first goal off a rebound. Backed by strong defense from Emily Fields and Elyssa Samsel, the Rockets plugged away and soon Tara Gaston scored after nice ball-handling by Sarah Salbu. The Rockets scored twice more in the second half, once off the foot of Konneker, but Fairfield scored twice in succession to narrow the gap. Later, Samsel finished off the game with her second goal.

ROCKETS 5, SHERMAN 1: Tara Gaston and Casey Frobey hooked up twice in the early stages of the game and led the Rockets to a win over Sherman. Defenders Megan Rawson, Elyssa Samsel, and keeper Vicky Thomas played well and even though Sherman cut the deficit early in the second half, Sarah Salbu and Kayla Mesko scored to put the game away. A corner kick rolled inadvertently in during the tangled melee in front of Sherman’s net for the other score.

BERKSHIRE UNITED 2, NITROS 2: Berkshires’ keeper and defensive team were tough enough to barely keep Erica Vacaro, Lindsay Weber, and Rachael Eastman from near scores on several breakaways. Jen Greenwood, Rose Jackman, Christine Salbu played tenaciously, and keeper Emma MacHugh made several great saves, assisted with strong defense by Shannon Kirch and Jen Iassogna.

SAMBA

Boys U13

SAMBA 2, BUNKER HILL 2: A sluggish start by Samba resulted in an early goal for Bunker Hill. The 1-0 deficit was short-lived as Samba came back on a goal by Joe Rahtelli, off a nice feed by Chris Collins. Rahtelli, who played a great game scored again off a cross from Brian Conner. Despite controlling most of the second half, Samba allowed Bunker Hill to slip through the mid-field and score a late goal to tie the game. Mark Cinquegrana, Ryan Derrig and Nick Gantsoudes played strong games for Samba.

SAMBA 1, EASTERN FOOTBALL CLUB 0: Samba played a terrific game to surprise previously undefeated Eastern. After early pressure applied by Ryan Ogiela and Chris Finstein, Chris Howley found the back of the net off a setup from Michael Klein. Brian Conroy, Jack Quinn and Ronny Basak-Smith applied constant offensive pressure, making it difficult for Eastern to clear their zone. The defense and goalie Sean Cummins stood tall in the second half, with strong contributions from Mike Vontobel, Mike Kennedy, Aron Fay and Chris Collins, ensuring the victory. Samba’s record in the CJSA premier league now stands at 3-0-2.
