Newtown Woman’s Club (NWC) members welcomed representatives from a number of local nonprofit organizations for a brief event on Friday, May 17.

The club annually presents donations to local groups in one sitting, sharing proceeds of fundraisers conducted by the local General Federation of Women’s Clubs chapter. Last Friday morning, six people gathered in the lobby of Edmond Town Hall to accept donations.

Douglas Lord, director, C.H. Booth Library; Janet Hovius, recipient interviewer for Newtown Meals on Wheels; Meghan Krebs, board member, Newtown Scholarship Association; Sharon McCarthy, assistant chief, Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps; Glenn Nanavaty, chairman, The Salvation Army-Newtown chapter; and Samantha Flynn, director of development, The Women’s Center of Greater Danbury, all assembled in the lobby of the former municipal building to accept the offerings from the Woman’s Club.

The Newtown Board of Fire Commissioners and Newtown Labor Day Parade Committee had also been invited to send representatives but were not present Friday morning. Checks will be delivered to each of those groups, Woman's Club Finance Committee Chair Dolores Judge told The Newtown Bee.
