After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, a Shelton woman went to the police station on the afternoon of September 28, and was charged with one count of second-degree larceny, which is a felony, in connection with her alleged embezzlement of funds from a local museum.

Police allege that across a period of time, Stefani Reyes, 37, who formerly was employed as the business manager at EverWonder Children's Museum embezzled approximately $18,580 from the non-profit organization located at 31 Pecks Lane. Ms Reyes no longer is employed by the museum, police said.

According to police records, police began an investigation into a complaint from the museum which was lodged on July 27. That probe resulted in police seeking and obtaining a court warrant to make the arrest. Second-degree larceny involves the theft of property valued at between $10,000 and $20,000. The charge is a Class C felony.

The museum is located in space formerly used for office/industrial purposes. The town rented space for municipal office use at that address from 2004 to 2009.

EverWonder Children's Museum was founded in January 2011 by a group of mothers who enjoyed bringing their children to other children's museums and who wanted to create a similar experience closer to home for everyone in the surrounding communities to enjoy, according to EverWonder's website. In April 2015, EverWonder Children's Museum moved from its former smaller quarters to its current location.

After arrest processing on September 28, police released Ms Reyes from custody on a written promise to appear for arraignment on the charge on October 12 in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury.
