Woman’s Club Members Are Crafty Women

The Newtown Woman’s Club, GFWC, Inc. held its annual Arts & Crafts Show during the club’s regular monthly meeting on March 18. Thirteen members entered 42 items in 28 different categories.

First place winners were as follows: Liz Arneth, Swarovski crystals bracelet; Peg Forbell, beaded amulet bag, knitted vest, large cross stitch, hardanger bookmark, and beaded guitar strap; Lorraine VanderWende, decorative painting, and Christmas wall hanging; Rosemary Rau, iris folding; Joyce Webster, needlepoint candy cane ornament, small needlepoint ornament, and large needlepoint pillow; and Marilyn Alexander, knitted cardigan.

Also, Carol Fullman, knitted shawl, knitted children’s cardigan, smocked toddler dress, Christmas place mats, machine quilted appliqué quilt, and machine quilted patchwork quilt; Betty Warner, knitted baby blanket; Louise Begley, small cross stitch; Nina Morrison, sewn jacket; Marianne Scanlon, original art oil; Marcia Cavanaugh, original art pastels, and photography color portrait/personality; and Shirley Ferris, color photography, scenic.

In addition, Best in Show for the crafts section of the show was awarded to Carol Fullman for her caterpillar quilt, Best in Show for the original art section of the show was awarded to Marcia Cavanaugh for her original pastel painting, and Best in Show for the photography section of the show was awarded to Shirley Ferris for her color photo of Mt. McKinley.

The first place items will next be entered in the District 1 Arts & Crafts Show to be held April 8. First place winners from the District Show will then be entered in the State GFWC Arts & Crafts show on May 15.
