CT Woolcrafters will host a local knit-in as part of an international observation planned for the first Saturday of June.

Anyone interested in knitting or other fiber arts is invited to join members of CT Woolcrafters for Newtown Knit-In, scheduled for Saturday, June 8, 10 am to 1 pm, at C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street.

Knitters of all levels are welcome.

Weather permitting, the group will be set up on the terrace of the library. If it rains, the group will be inside. Those planning to attend should bring their own knitting/fiber arts supplies and folding chair.

World Wide Knit in Public Day (WWKIP Day) will celebrate knitting, crochet, spinning, needle felting, weaving, and embroidery, with similar events taking place around the globe. Organizers believe theirs is the largest knitter-run event in the world. Each local event is put together by a volunteer or a group of volunteers; all groups are encouraged to register at wwkipday.com.

World Wide Knit in Public Day was started in 2005 by Danielle Landes. It began as a way for knitters — who generally work on their own — to join together and enjoy each other’s company. Astrid Salling, from Copenhagen, Denmark, has organized WWKIP Day since 2011.

CT Woolcrafters was founded earlier this year by Nancy Gould, who wanted to bring together the local fiber community and offer artists the opportunity to develop their skills. The group meets on the second Tuesday of each month at the library.
