World Day Of Prayer

Being Planned

Church Women United in Newtown/Bethel extend an open invitation to the public to attend the 2004 World Day of Prayer (WDP) program being planned for Friday, March 5. The service will begin at 1 pm.

This year’s service will be at Newtown United Methodist Church, at 92 Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook. The Reverend E. Susan Klein will be the guest speaker. The celebration’s topic is “In Faith, Women Shape The Future.”

All are welcome, regardless of faith. There is no charge. An offering will be taken during the service, which will benefit the ongoing work of WDP International Committee as well as that of Church Women United (CWU), the national committee of WDP.

Barbara Chamberlain will be the guest organist for the service. Participants will include CWU-Newtown/Bethel members Peg Forbell, Barbara Gates, Norma Gray, Linda Manganaro, Carol Mattegat, Doris Schoonmaker, and Pat Stroud.

CWU-Newtown/Bethel will also be accepting donations at the door of non-perishable foods. Those donations will be given to FAITH Food Pantry in Sandy Hook.

A social gathering will be held following the service, and light refreshments will be offered.

World Day of Prayer services are being planned by congregations and communities around the world. CWU is an ecumenical movement that brings together protestant, Roman Catholic, Orthodox and other Christian women in the United States and Puerto Rico with common hopes for a just, caring and peaceful society, among other ideals.
