The two-day community event will feature a variety of classes for all experience levels taught by Yoga Dimensions instructors, as well as some special guests, with all of the proceeds raised going to benefit the Women's Center of Greater Danbury.

The organization provides free, confidential services for women and men who are victims of domestic and sexual violence and also provides educational programs for schools.

According to the Women's Center's website, the group serves more than 20,000 individuals, including Newtown residents, and focuses on providing "emergency shelter and support services, counseling and advocacy, crisis intervention, and community education, primary prevention and training."

Yoga Dimensions manager and yoga teacher Kristi Gunnershaug says she dedicates about a class a month to benefiting local charities and was inspired to coordinate the Holiday Yogathon as a charity event to support the Women's Center in hopes of highlighting the services the organization provides.

"I know of at least a handful of people that have used their services, and I know of at least two handfuls that have volunteered over the many years they have been active," Ms Gunnershaug said.

Samantha Connetta-Flynn, development director of the Women's Center, said, "We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of community members like Kristi and Yoga Dimensions for hosting events such as these. They make a real financial impact and demonstrate a commitment from the community to support the work we do."

During the Holiday Yogathon, there will be half an hour breaks between each class for guests to enjoy complimentary refreshments and shop for handmade gift item in the boutique.

Items for sale will include lavender eye pillows, aromatherapy linen spray and body scrubs, bath bombs, crocheted winter accessories, natural perfume rollers, pottery items, yoga mat sprays, and make-your-own mala bead kits.

There is no set price to attend, but guests are invited to make a donations for the Women's Center of Greater Danbury.
