MILWAUKEE, WISC. (AP) â The Milwaukee Art Museum has hired the executive director of the San Jose Museum of Art to take over as director in March. Daniel T. Keegan has been at the San Jose Museum of Art since 2000.
Keegan grew up in Green Bay and earned a bachelorâs degree from the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. He has a masterâs degree from Southern Illinois University.
He spent 23 years leading art departments at three colleges and supplementing his income by making pottery.
Keegan made the transition to museums when he was recruited to lead the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art in Kansas City, Mo., in 1997.
He succeeds Milwaukee Art Museum chief executive officer and director David Gordon, who came to Milwaukee in 2002 from Londonâs Royal Academy of the Arts.
Gordon said he will stay in Milwaukee and start a consulting business to advise museums on financial planning.
The San Jose museum has about half the operating budget of the Milwaukee museum.
