Legal Strategies To Protect Financial & Personal Affairs
St Rose of Lima Church Outreach Ministry and Visiting Angels will be hosting a free seminar on “Plan, Prepare and Protect — Legal Strategies As We Age.”
The workshop will focus on planning to ensure one’s financial and personal affairs will be handled as expected when they are no longer capable to care for themselves.
Attorney Ann Fowler-Cruz will present the workshop on Tuesday, November 10. It will begin at 6:30 pm and will take place at the St Rose of Lima Holy Innocents Faith Formation Center, 38B Church Hill Road.
Ms Fowler-Cruz will discuss legal documents which should be reviewed or created with the aging process in mind: Power of Attorney, Advanced Directives, Living Wills, and Do Not Resuscitate orders, or DNRs. She will also discuss how to prepare an estate to minimize taxes and delay; proper titling of assets to accomplish these goals; strategies for protecting assets in the event of long term care; and the use of trusts, life estate and annuities .
Ms Fowler-Cruz is an elder law attorney who has been advocating for the elderly and the disabled for two decades. She has earned Certified Elder Law (CELA) distinction through the National Elder Law Foundation, and was named a 2013 Connecticut Super Lawyer by Connecticut Magazine.
