  • Co-ed Venture Crew 70 Wins Scatacook District Klondike Derby

    The Klondike Derby is a winter scouting skills and leadership competition that has been sponsored annually by Boy Scout units since 1949. Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, and Venture Crews gather for the daylong event, working in teams and vying for points earned at several skills stations set up along a course.

    Occupation: I’m president of Sibley Smart Copy, LLC, a content marketing firm. I do all kinds of copyediting and am a content generator for many companies. It is pretty much anything and everything that can be written for content web or print marketing purposes.

    Family: I’ve been married to Rob for almost 17 years. We have three children. Daniel is 10 years old, and we have twins, Stephen and Brian, who are 6 years old.

  • The Top of the Mountain

    Under the tutelage of creative writing instructor Chris Belden, inmates of Garner Correctional Institute have published three editions of a literary magazine, Sentences. Issue number 4 is ready to be printed, with more original prose and poetry, Chris says, but funding is needed. “If just 30 people donate $10 each we will be able to print enough copies to distribute to the inmates,” he tells me, and anyone who donates $10 will receive a copy.

    Instead of the usual NBC “Bugler’s Dream” trumpet blast that has been greeting my ears during the 2014 broadcasts of the Winter Olympics, I perked up at one point when I recognized the Connecticut-produced “Nothing More” song. “Nothing More” was composed by Tim Warren of the band Alternate Routes, to support Newtown Kindness, an organization founded by the family of Charlotte Bacon, who died 12/14 at Sandy Hook Elementary School.
