• The One That Got Away

     To the Editor:

    I am confused. If Charles Dumais is such a great principal that he got hired away by another school district as a superintendent, why wasn't he considered for our  next superintendent of schools?  Was he asked?  If he was asked, did he refuse?

    The way John Reed extolled his virtues, he would have ended our search.  I wish someone could explain this whole thing.  It doesn't make sense to me.

  • School Board Unanimously Selects New Superintendent

    The Newtown Board of Education unanimously voted to name Joseph Erardi, Jr, as the school district's new superintendent during a special meeting held on Friday, January 17.

    According to a press release from the school board, read by BOE Vice Chair Laura Roche during the meeting, it is anticipated that Dr Erardi will begin his new position as early as the spring.

  • Firm Selected For Superintendent Search

    The Board of Education moved one step further in its search for a superintendent during a special meeting on Tuesday, August 6, when it unanimously voted to hire the Connecticut Association of Boards of Education (CABE) to act as a consultant.

    Board of Education Chair Debbie Leidlein said, following the meeting, that it was a tough decision between CABE and Cooperative Education Services (CES), based out of Trumbull, as both firms were good contenders.

  • Board Sets May 6 As Reed’s First Day As Superintendent

    The Board of Education voted at its meeting on Tuesday, April 9, to have former Newtown Superintendent of Schools John Reed begin his term as acting interim superintendent on May 6, when Superintendent of Schools Janet Robinson will begin a vacation.

    The motion came following an executive session that included Dr Robinson and the board’s attorney Floyd Dugas.
