Girl Scout cookies

  • Cookies Campaign

Local Girl Scouts are greeting registered voters as they arrive at the polls in Newtown today. It’s also Girl Scout Cookie Season, so the young Scouts are doing some campaigning of their own, offering boxes of cookies along with smiles. The smiles are free, Girl Scout cookies are $4 a box. The Brownies at Reed School Tuesday morning had a large supply of this year’s offerings, from classics like Samoas, Thin Mints, Trefoils and Do-Si-Dos to new offerings including Savannah Smiles and Rah-Rah Raisins.

  • Act Of Kindness

    To the Editor:

I would like to extend a very heartfelt “thank you” to the kind gentleman who purchased 25 boxes of girl scout cookies at our cookie booth this past Saturday to be donated to the food pantry.

You performed a very generous act of kindness for both the people that utilize the food pantry and for a group of young girls who were so excited to sell that many cookies to one person.  You proved that it truly is “Nicer in Newtown.”

    Thank you,

Newtown Associates last week earned its zoning permit to resubdivide 300 acres on Poverty Hollow Road, an act that will preserve some rural properties while opening up a large parcel to future residential growth. After two years and four public hearings, the property will finally be resubdivided to maintain an 18-acre estate and a horse farm on two parcels totaling 39 acres.
