  • VNA Thrift Shop Ready To Reopen

After being closed for the summer months for “revamping, reorganizing, and cleaning,” said VNA member Joan Reynolds, the VNA Thrift Shop will reopen for a new season on Saturday, September 12.

“We have been cleaning everything up, as well as bringing in new merchandise,” Mrs Reynolds said September 4. She and fellow VNA members Mae Schmidle and Anna Wiedemann were at the shop, located on the lower level of Edmond Town Hall, but with its own entrance, to see what needed to be done in the week before the shop would reopen.

  • Timeless Work For Newtown

    To the Editor:

Chuck and I were so sorry not to be able to attend the event for Julia Wasserman and Mae Schmidle, but we did want to add our two cents about these outstanding and notable ladies for their timeless work for Newtown.  We are pleased Julia and Mae have been formally recognized for their dedication to a better life, safe community and the best of Newtown.

  • Affection, Admiration, and Gratitude

    To the Editor:

Many words have been written and spoken about the achievements of Julia Wasserman and Mae Schmidle and of the contributions each has made to Newtown and to this state. But I’d like to add a personal perspective.

  • Julia Wasserman and Mae Schmidle

We all know that feeling when the daily planner has filled up with obstacles, and e-mail and voice mail is overflowing with conundrums and impossible requests. Nothing is easy, and the day is too short. We really could use someone with the energy, the imagination, and the connections to get things done. Someone with the fresh and youthful approach. Someone like a couple of ageless women we know.

Chances are, no matter where you travel in Newtown, you have seen or experienced something for which either former state lawmaker Julia Wasserman or Mae Schmidle was responsible.

  • Top of The Mountain

I can think of no better way to begin this week’s column than by wishing a very Happy Birthday to Doris Dickinson, who celebrated the big 103 on June 26.
