Christian Richard Chemero, 59, passed away unexpectedly on December 15, 2025 in La Junta, Colorado. Born on April 17, 1966, Christian grew up in Newtown, and relocated to Colorado in 2005. He lived a life defined by creativity, adventure, and deep connections with those around him.

Christian pursued his education at Otero College’s School of Studio Art. A gifted artist and craftsman, he excelled in a wide range of creative pursuits. He was a talented drummer and enjoyed much of his time in his younger years as such in jam sessions and bands with his friends here in Newtown.

His artistic gifts extended beyond music. He was also a skilled woodworker and photographer with an eye for detail and beauty. Whether behind a camera lens or working with his hands, Christian brought passion and precision to everything he created.

His love for the outdoors was equally profound. An avid mountain climber and biker, Christian found joy and peace in nature’s embrace. He spent countless hours fishing and photographing wildlife, capturing fleeting moments of natural wonder through his lens. One particularly memorable act of compassion came when he rescued a hawk with a broken wing — naming it “Christian” — and lovingly nursed it back to flight. This story stands as a testament to his gentle heart.

Christian cherished his family deeply. He is survived by his daughter, Brandi-Lynn Braziel, and her mother, Terri Watkins Braziel of Sandy Hook; as well as his sister Lisa Gallaway and her husband Sean Gallaway of Brookfield; his niece Karlianne; and his three nephews: Jack, Noah, and Rayne.

His parents — MaryEllen Harris (Chemero) of Newtown and Richard Chemero of New Port Richey, Florida — predeceased him.

Those who knew Christian remember him as someone who lived life fully and fearlessly. He embraced every interest with enthusiasm and excelled at them all. His adventurous spirit was legendary among friends and family alike. As their mother often said when describing Christian and his many ventures: “Not all wanderers are lost.” ~ J.R.R. Tolkien.

A cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held in late spring/early summer in his hometown of Newtown, at a location befitting an outdoorsman extraordinaire. Details will be shared on his sister’s Facebook page once plans are finalized (facebook.com/share/16odymQH8U).
