Town-sponsored curbside recycling pickup was eliminated with the passage of the municipal budget in April 2025.
As of January 1, residents who do not use a private hauler for their garbage pickup have to take recycling to Newtown’s transfer station on Ethan Allen Road.
Newtown had been hosting a curbside recycling program since the early 1990s, following a town ordinance to comply with Connecticut’s 1991 state-mandated recycling law for businesses and households.
