Boys’ Swim And Dive Squad Has Strong Performances
Newtown High School’s boys’ swimming and diving team had some solid races and dives in its first meet after the holiday break, a 94-86 loss to visiting Brookfield on January 6.
“Alex Gadbut swam two good races against strong opponents. He is maturing in the way he approaches a race and it’s great to see. Finn Clancy had a great 100 freestyle that bodes very well for his sprinting success this year,” Coach Lisa Irving said.
“Our divers, Trenton Story and Warren Ache, completed their first program and both did very well for their first meet. Kyle Albrecht, Elias Kolb, Beau Clancy, and Sam Irving all continue to swim well and we love the work they’re putting in towards their progress and development,” the coach added.
The 200 yard medley relay team of Gadbut, Finn Clancy, Albrecht, and Ache placed second in a time of 1:54.35. Newtown’s relay contingent of Beau Clancy, Irving, Bradley George, and Kolb came in third in 1:54.35.
Gadbut was second in the 200 free in 1:54.36. Albrecht had Newtown’s fastest time in the 200 individual medley race, clocking in at 2:22.43. Ache came in second in the 50 free in 23.58.
Story took third in diving with a score of 133.42 and Ache earned fourth with a 129.22.
In the 100 yard butterfly race Albrecht placed second in 1:01.75, and George was third in 1:06.91. Finn Clancy was second in the 100 free with a time of 52.45. Gadbut earned second in the 500, making his final touch in 5:06.57.
Newtown’s 200 free relay team of Ache, Albrecht, Finn Clancy, and Gadbut was runner-up in 1:35.37. Story, Brady Wennerholm, George, and Connor Kelly came in third in 1:49.03.
In the 100 backstroke Kolb was second in 1:05.50, edging teammate and third-place finisher Beau Clancy, who finished in 1:05.98. Finn Clancy had the third-fastest time in the 100 breaststroke with a 1:11.36. Kelly, Wennerholm, Kolb, and Irving came in second in the 400 relay in 4:03.89.
The Nighthawks visit Weston Tuesday, January 13 at 4 pm.
