Slug: P.H. Miller Gallery To Showcase ‘Winterludes’

WOODBURY, CONN. — The P.H. Miller Studio and Gallery presents “Winterludes” through March 30, a revolving exhibit featuring selected artists. The fresh, bright pieces exhibited in this show are a welcome respite from the seemingly bleak outdoors. During the exhibit’s 11-week period, the show will change periodically to keep vistas changing within the gallery.

Gabo Rodriguez, one of the many artists featured in “Winterludes,” composes somewhat abstract, yet architectural scenes. An especially provocative piece titled “Tendedero del Amor” draws the onlooker to a series of architectural spaces, the first resembling classic stucco that opens to a deep burgundy archway which, in turn, opens to a slightly off-center, glowing vertical rectangle.

Equally alluring, but very different in subject matter are Joy Bristol’s small dessert paintings. Mini blueberry muffins rest just inside a window to cool and a pair of donuts nestle together on a warm, pink plate.

Also included in “Winterludes” are the classic landscapes of Thomas C. Adkins, a well-known regional artist. Depicted in Adkins’ paintings are views of New England with its warm, lustrous sunlight.

Robert Holden, also a traditional painter, showcases some of his newest still lifes. Reminiscent of a Sunday afternoon tea party at Grandmother’s house, bright, white peonies accompany China tea sets.

The P.H. Miller Studio and Gallery is at 495 Main Street South. Winter Gallery Hours are Tuesday–Saturday 9:30 am to 5:30 pm; Sunday by chance or appointment.
