Hit Pole, Stop Sign
Newtown Police report Bridget Morrissey, 26, of Newtown, operating a 2023 Honda CR-V, was traveling southbound on Hattertown Road at 6:41 am December 14. Morrissey was traveling too fast for the snowy conditions of the road and lost control on a right-hand curve. She struck a utility pole and a stop sign before coming to rest in a culvert off the northbound shoulder.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.
Morrissey was issued a verbal warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Rear Ended On Mt Pleasant
Newtown Police report Tara Hegarty, 27, of Newtown, operating a 2019 Honda Civic, was traveling southbound on The Old Road at 12:43 pm December 16. She was traveling behind a 2009 Chevrolet Silverado operated by Gerardo Guezada, 50, of Danbury. Guezada stopped at the intersection of Mt Pleasant Road and Hegarty did not stop in time, rear-ending Guezada’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Hegarty was issued a verbal warning for following too close.
Collision At Intersection
Newtown Police report Blake Heim-Sherwood, 16, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2016 Jeep Wrangler, was traveling southbound on Botsford Hill Road at 2:47 pm December 17. She was traveling behind a 2018 Subaru Legacy operated by Lisette Tesla, 40, of Shelton. Tesla stopped at the intersection of High Bridge Road and was rear-ended by Heim-Sherwood’s vehicle.
Tesla complained of a possible injury but declined transport. Her vehicle was towed.
Heim-Sherwood was issued a verbal warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart. Tesla received a verbal warning for operating an unregistered motor vehicle.
Two Turns Lead To One Collision
Newtown Police report Kelly T., 24, of Mantua, N.J., was stopped at the traffic light at the intersection of Toddy Hill Road and Berkshire Road in the left-hand turn lane at 8:54 am December 18. Lucy Sgagliardich, 17, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2003 Buick Century, was at the traffic light at the intersection of Toddy Hill Road and Berkshire Road in the right lane that is both a right- and left-hand turn lane. Both vehicles attempted to make a left-hand turn onto Berkshire Road, with T. in the left lane and Sgagliardich in the right lane. T. attempted to change lanes to enter the I-84 on ramp and struck Sgagliardich’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
T. was issued a verbal warning for failure to drive in the proper lane.
Too Fast For Conditions
Newtown Police report Tello Castro, 18, of Danbury, operating a 2018 Nissan Sentra, was traveling northbound on Bancroft Road at 1:35 am December 24. Castro traveled across the intersection with Alpine Road and struck an embankment and line of mature landscaped cypress trees.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.
Castro was issued a verbal warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Wrangler Strikes Civic
Newtown Police report Adam Bisson, 48, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2015 Jeep Wrangler, was traveling southbound on Walnut Tree Hill Road at 11:58 am December 26. Zijada Hamzabegovic, 50, of New Britain, operating a 2019 Honda Civic, was traveling southbound on Walnut Tree Hill Road and came to a stop at the stop sign at the intersection of Church Hill Road. Bisson rear-ended Hamzabegovic’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Bisson was issued a written warning for following too close.
Unlicensed Driver Hits Bushes
Newtown Police report Rosilene Ribeiro-Cardosa, 45, of Danbury, operating a 2006 Toyota Scion, was traveling eastbound on Mt Pleasant Road at 8:25 pm December 26. Ribeiro-Cardosa’s vehicle veered to the right and left the roadway, where it struck some bushes.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.
Ribeiro-Cardosa was issued an infraction for operating a motor vehicle without a license and a verbal warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Slide On Snow, Struck Pole
Newtown Police report Nicholas Osmun, 28, of Bethel, operating a 2021 Jeep Wrangler, was traveling eastbound on Mt Pleasant Road at 8:15 am December 27. The vehicle began to slide due to the snow and slush on the roadway, and Osmun lost control, striking a utility pole.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed.
Osmun was issued a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Unknown Vehicle Evades Collision
Newtown Police report that Samuel Newton, 53, of Newtown, returned to his 2019 Honda CR-V that was parked in the parking lot of 5 Queen Street at 9:57 pm December 28, he noticed visible damage to his driver’s side front door and red pieces of his tail light cover on the ground. There was no camera footage of the incident. There was also no distinct marks or other identifying evidence left behind.
Slid On Ice, Hit Sign
Newtown Police report Skylar Wolf, 26, of Danbury, operating a 2014 Mazda CX-5, was traveling on Mt Pleasant Road at 10:31 pm December 29. The vehicle slid on a patch of black ice, leaving the roadway and driving onto and up an embankment before striking a traffic sign.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action was taken.
Evading Mini Sought
Newtown Police report that at approximately 3 pm December 30, a dark colored Mini Cooper traveling at a high rate of speed southbound on Huntingtown Road struck a mailbox with its right side view mirror and then left the scene.
If identified, the driver will be charged with evading responsibility for causing property damage and failure to maintain the proper lane.

Struck Tree
Newtown Police report Antwon Scott, 24, of Monroe, operating a 2012 Subaru Outback, was traveling southbound on High Rock Road at 6:56 pm December 30. Scott’s vehicle left the roadway and struck a tree.
No injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed.
Scott was issued a verbal warning for making a restricted turn.
Following Too Close
Newtown Police report Elisabeth Tito, 33, of Ansonia, operating a 2013 Honda CR-V, was traveling northbound on Berkshire Road at 6:36 am January 1. She was traveling behind a 2019 Nissan Altima operated by Dasia Person, 27, of New Haven. Person stopped due to traffic, and Tito was unable to stop in time, rear-ending Person’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Tito was issued an infraction for following too close.
Collision In Intersection
Newtown Police report Liam Daquino, 17, of Sandy Hook, operating a 2018 Jeep Wrangler, was exiting a commercial driveway on South Main Street. Laurie Kirsh, 68, of Monroe, operating a 2003 Ford Taurus, was traveling southbound on South Main Street at 3:04 pm January 2. Daquino turned left onto South Main Street and was struck by Kirsh’s vehicle.
EMS responded for minor injuries but no one was transported to the hospital. Kirsh’s vehicle was towed.
Daquino was issued an infraction for failure to grant right of way from a private driveway.
Moved Forward, Hit Stopped Vehicle
Newtown Police report Pamela Waller, 85, of Nantucket, Mass., was in the parking lot of 75 Church Hill Road at 3:45 pm January 2. She was stopped in traffic in the drive-through line of Starbucks behind a 2018 Ford Explorer operated by Allie Montague, 47, who was also stopped in traffic. Waller began to move forward and struck the rear of Montague’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.
Hit Car Stopped For Bus
Newtown Police report Jonimilissa Edwards-Van Muijen, 55, of Newtown, operating a 2019 Tesla Model 3, was traveling southbound on Hanover Road at 8:39 am January 5. Kaitlyn Mawicke, 25, of Newtown, operating a 2018 Jeep Compass, was traveling southbound on Hanover Road and came to a stop for a school bus ahead that was picking up passengers. Edwards-Van Muijen rear-ended Mawicke’s vehicle.
No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.
Edwards-Van Muijen was issued a verbal warning for following too close.
