Diana Wellman
Diana Wellman, 83, of Newtown, passed away peacefully on January 2 after a long and courageous struggle with heart failure.
Born in Bethel, Diana lived a life defined by resilience, generosity, and deep devotion to the people she loved. Over the years, she embraced many roles — schoolteacher, devoted wife to Eric, homemaker, mother and trust administrator — each one reflecting her strong work ethic and her commitment to caring for others. She served her community as a volunteer in the emergency room of Danbury Hospital and on its Ethics Committee. At her alma mater, Western Connecticut State University, she was an active member of the Alumni Association and served as the Association’s treasurer.
Diana was fiercely independent, yet she cherished the company of her friends and family. Her home was a place of warmth, especially during the holidays, when she poured her love into the meals she cooked and especially the cookies she baked for those gathered around her table. Those traditions, and the joy she brought to them, will be remembered always. She also had a passion for gardening as evidenced by the beautiful landscape she created in her yard in Newtown.
She is survived by her sons, Kyle Wellman and his wife Lauren, and their children Elise and Collin; and Parris Wellman and his wife Michelle, and their daughter Olivia. Her family will forever hold her memory close.
Diana’s strength, kindness, and unwavering love leave a lasting imprint on all who knew her. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, January 24, from 1 to 3 pm, at Brookfield Funeral Home, 786 Federal Road in Brookfield.
Contributions in her memory may be made to WCSU Foundation, with “Diana and Eric Wellman Scholarship” noted in the memo line, and mailed to 181 White Street, Danbury CT 06810. Gifts may also be made online at wcsu.edu/giving (select Give Now, then Other, and specifying The Diana and Eric Wellman Scholarship).
