Chamber Hosts Annual Dinner Dance

At The Stony Hill Inn

The Newtown Chamber of Commerce once again hosted a spectacular affair for the Annual Dinner Dance held Saturday, January 8, at the Stony Hill Inn. The event was sponsored by Newtown Savings Bank, Curtis Packaging, and Ashlar of Newtown. A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the Tsunami Relief Fund.

The Annual Meeting was led by chamber President Pat Linnell. Along with a brief welcome she presented recommendations made by the board to update the by-laws, accept renewal terms of existing board members, and the board nomination of Marie Dupree, president emeritus. The change to the by-laws, unanimously approved by chambers members, now permits for companies that conduct business in Newtown to qualify as a chamber member.

Previously, chamber members must have either their business or their residence located in Newtown to qualify for membership. This accepted change will increase the opportunities for companies to leverage the chamber to help them grow their business within the Newtown commun-ity.

With solos, duets, and ensembles, the Newtown Drama Club, led by Sabrina Post, dazzled attendees with a preview of its spring production of Showboat. The cast joined the chamber last year with its show-stopping performance of Les Miserables.

Along with fine dining and dancing to the tunes of DJ Power Station, guests congregated around the silent auction table in hopes of outbidding fellow chamber members on one of the 13 creatively packaged options. In addition to the silent auction, guests were invited to join the U-Pick raffle in which participants purchased one ticket for $10 or three for $25 for a guaranteed raffle item worth $25 or more. It took only 37 minutes to sell out the more than 80 raffle items donated by Newtown area businesses.

The chamber annual dinner committee included Mike Neiman of Captain Wood Carpentry, Pat Linnell of Linnell Real Estate, Nancy Adams of Newtown Savings Bank, and Jane Sharpe of Ward Cedar Log Homes. The committee offered a special thank you to Judy Grabarz of Newtown Florist for the beautiful table decorations.

The Chamber of Commerce of Newtown, Inc is dedicated to the promotion and encouragement of Newtown’s business community. It actively supports the expansion of business opportunities on behalf of its members through marketing, networking programs, community-sponsored events, and involvement in local economic development.
