Clergy To Celebrate Newtownâs Tercentennial
The Newtown clergy association will assemble to lead an ecumenical service in celebration of Newtownâs Tercentennial anniversary on Sunday, January 16, at 3 pm. The public is invited to attend the gathering in The Great Room of Newtown Congregational Church, at 14 West Street.Â
Rev Steve Gordon, Newtown Congregational Church; Father Bob Weiss, St Roseâs of Lima Catholic Church; Rev Kathleen Adams-Shepard, Trinity Episcopal Church; Rabbi Shaul Praven, Adath Isreal; Rev Terry Pfeiffer, Newtown United Methodist; Rev Jack Tanner, Newtown Christian Church; and Bruce Moulthrop, St Johnâs Episcopal Church will co-officiate the service featuring text and hymns reflective of the religious community. Choirs from the various churches will join to lead the hymns.
Founded in 1714, Newtown Congregational Church is the oldest established church in Newtown. Members originally gathered at the meeting house on Main Street for worship.
