Abigail Seblewongel Greene, aged 18, passed away in her home unexpectedly on January 8, 2026.

Abigail, or Abby to virtually everyone, was the beloved daughter of Mark and Nanette Greene. She was adopted from Ethiopia when she was 21 months old and brought to her forever home in October 2009.

This past spring, Abby traveled to Europe with her Newtown High School classmates and it opened her eyes to joys of travel and learning about other cultures, and even the possibilities of studying and living abroad. She was looking forward to this year’s trip to Greece and Italy.

Abby worked at Ferris Acres Creamery, where she learned about hard work and responsibility, while making people happy, and the importance of keeping her father supplied with Bada Bing.

From kindergarten all the way through senior year, Abby worked diligently on her assignments, never wanted to miss a single day of school (except for all snow days and holidays), and loved her classmates, teachers, and counselors.

Her next stop was The New School in New York City.

She loved travel, movies, baking, good food, and hanging with friends while driving for endless hours all around town, the windows down, singing at the top of her lungs. She was a warm, funny, tough, gentle, delightful human being who brought never ending joy into the lives of all who were lucky enough to know her.

Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service at Congregation Adath Israel on Sunday, January 18, at 10:30 am, followed by a brief repast.
