UPDATE (Sunday, January 18, 2026): Due to a snowstorm expected to continue well into the afternoon and/or evening, a pre-legislative session with State Representatives Mitch Bolinsky (R-106) and Martin Foncello (R-107) scheduled at Newtown Community Center this afternoon is being postponed.

Newtown Community Center is closing at 1 pm, it announced a short time ago. The 2 pm legislative session will be rescheduled.

Bolinsky told The Newtown Bee he and Foncello will reschedule their appearance.

“There’s a lot to talk about concerning this session,” Bolinsky said late Sunday morning. “It’s important for everyone to know what we’re focusing on.”

In addition to speaking to their constituents this afternoon, the state representatives planned to also debut a “Constituent Wish List Exchange.” Attendees were going to be invited to share what they would like to see addressed in Connecticut state law.

“It’s going to be important to not just tell folks what we’re working on, but to see what they think our priorities should be,” Bolinsky said.

The new date for the State of the State may not occur before the new legislative session opens on February 4, the lawmaker cautioned. The new date will be dependent on the community center’s calendar and room availability, he said.

“With the library continuing its HVAC work, the community center is hosting a lot of extra programs right now,” he said. “We’ll look at everyone’s schedules and we will be there as soon as everything lines up,” he promised.

Meanwhile, constituents who would like to contact Mitch Bolinsky or Martin Foncello can do so at 800-842-1423, Mitch.Bolinsky@housegop.ct.gov or Martin.Foncello@housegop.ct.com.

State Representatives Mitch Bolinsky (R-106) and Martin Foncello (R-107) will be hosting a discussion on the upcoming 2026 legislative session, this coming weekend, including a brief “State of the State” update.

The 2026 legislative session, commonly known as the “budget adjustment session,” begins on February 4. Both Bolinsky and Foncello are members of the budget-writing Appropriations Committee.

Additionally, because some very good legislative ideas often come from the public, the representatives will debut a new “Constituent Wish List exchange” in which constituents will be able to submit written “bill concepts” they’d like to see addressed in Connecticut state law. This section may be subject to time constraints.

The Newtown state lawmakers will host the event on Sunday, January 18, from 1 to 3 pm, at Newtown Community Center, 8 Simpson Street.

The event is free and open to residents of Newtown. Those who are unable to attend but would like to contact the legislators can reach them at 800-842-1423, or Mitch.Bolinsky@housegop.ct.gov or Martin.Foncello@housegop.ct.com.
