WWII US Marine

Corps Veteran

Edward Everett “Bud” Long, Jr, 84, of Ponte Vedra, Fla., died January 9. He was born February 10, 1924, in Norristown, Penn.

In addition to his wife of 59 years, Nancy Kline, survivors include a daughter, Becky Bowes and her husband, Brian, of Newtown.

Mr Long loved America and was honored to be a veteran of the US Marine Corps during World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater.

One of his true joys in life was helping others in need by participating in Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels, and the transportation of cancer patients. He was an avid golf and tennis player, enjoyed gardening, and was a member of the Sawgrass Singers (Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla). He will be remembered for his love of playing his harmonica, which always added a special touch to the beaches services in Connecticut and Florida.

A memorial service was scheduled at 1 pm, Friday, January 16, in the Saugatuck Congregational Church in Westport. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Nature Conservancy, 4245 North Fairfax Drive, Arlington VA 22203.
