Newtown High School wrestlers divided and competed in a pair of big tournaments on January 10. Jack Maddox, Antonio Arguello, Noah Blair, and Owen Blair all traveled to the 2026 Eastern States Classic in Halfmoon, New York. The tourney, in its 22nd year, has earned a reputation as one of the most challenging high school wrestling tournaments in the nation. The second squad of Newtown grapplers competed at the 2026 Fairfield Warde Invitational against 18 tough Connecticut teams across the M, L, and LL state divisions.

Maddox earned a championship and Arguello was runner-up in a tourney filled with top talent and nationally-ranked athletes from 160+ teams. These Newtown grapplers were the first tournament finalists in the high school team’s history. Maddox became just the eighth wrestler in state history to win an individual title. Arguello had four pins and one major decision, only losing in the finals to the second-ranked wrestler in New York. Newtown’s team captains propelled NHS to be the top-placing team from Connecticut.

At Warde, Micah Houston earned first place in the 99 pound weight division; Ryder Symes (144), Troy Da Silva (165), and Rion Lena (190) all took second; and Jake Fattibene was fifth at 150.
