Lexington Gardens Will Host SCANâs Annual Winter Show, Which Opens Saturday
Brighten the days of winter by visiting âColor in January,â the annual art show and sale presented by The Society of Creative Arts of Newtown.
The show will be presented from Saturday, January 21, through Sunday, January 29. Show hours are 10 am to 5 pm daily.
Lexington Gardens, at 32 Church Hill Road in Newtown, will once again host the winter presentation.
SCAN artist members will present over 200 paintings. The annual event showcases original work by nearly 100 artists done in oils, watercolors, pastels and graphics.
An opening reception will be held January 21 from 2 to 4 pm, to which the public is cordially invited. There is no charge for the opening, the show, or the any of the four special presentation offered during the course of the show.
Artists and art lovers alike can enjoy the special feature of this event: hour-long artist demonstrations each Saturday and Sunday during the show, each beginning at 12:30 pm. Four prominent area artists will be highlighted this year.
On Saturday, January 21, Melody Asbury of Woodbury will demonstrate in pastel. Her subject will be an animal. Ms Asbury has a wide range of subjects as well as medium.
On Sunday, January 22, Ruth Newquist of Newtown will paint a landscape in oil. Mrs Newquist paints New England subjects as well as cityscapes in both watercolor and oil.
On Saturday, January 28, Cal Martin of Southbury will be painting in watercolor. Mr Martin lived for a while in Florida, and his crisp style and rich color reflects that area.
On Sunday, January 29, Beverly Branch of Bethel will be paint a portrait from a model. Her medium will be acrylic. Ms Branch currently has a show of her paintings at Cyrenius H. Booth Library in Newtown.
