Mary Ellen Keogh McQuail, 80, of Heritage Village, Southbury, died peacefully at home, January 14, with her beloved husband of 59 years at her side. She was born in Wilmington, Del., December 9, 1931, to Emma Mary Pallen and Grenville Temple Keogh.
Mrs McQuail was an exceptionally strong woman who was well known and loved by her many friends and neighbors in her longtime home of Newtown. She will be remembered as one who loved her God, her family, and her country with passion and vigor, and will live long in the hearts and minds of those who knew her.
She leaves behind her devoted husband, John Ennis McQuail; and six children, Matthew and Patty Gillen, and Mary Atkinson of Newtown, John âSpikeâ Ennis McQuail, Jr, of Framingham, Mass., Megan Vaughan of Nags Head, N.C., Joanna Lambert of Litchfield, and Christopher McQuail of Sag Harbor, L.I; 17 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her many nieces and nephews; and her only sister, Georgiana Keogh Grant. Three of her beloved children, David, Katherine, and Sean; and six brothers, Martin, Grenville, Conde, Robert, Peter, and Michael predeceased Mrs McQuail.
A Memorial Mass was celebrated January 18. Interment will be private.
The Honan Funeral Home, Newtown assisted the family.
