Sandy Hook 5K Youth T-Shirt Design Contest Deadline Approaching
Children ages 2-10 are invited to draw a logo that will be used on race shirts given to all youth runners on March 28, when the Sandy Hook 5K is held.
Organizers would like children to draw a logo that will be featured on the front of this year’s shirt. Logos should be inspired by the race or what Newtown means to the artist. Participants do not need to live in Newtown.
The five winning artists will each receive a $15 gift certificate to The Toy Tree.
Printed copies of the contest form are available at Newtown Center Pediatrics, 10 Queen Street in Newtown; and the office of The Newtown Bee, at 5 Church Hill Road.
The contest form is available on the race’s Facebook page (Facebook.com/5krunforshf.5krunforshf.org) as well as the race website,
Completed entry forms must be mailed to or dropped off at Newtown Center Pediatrics by Friday, January 30.
Registration for this year’s race opened on January 18. The openings for 1,500 runners and walkers were filled within 24 hours, according to Julie Brunelle, who is working with Katie Blake as a race director this year. Openings were still available for virtual runners, however.
Openings for 250 children for the kids’ race was nearly filled by 8 am Wednesday, January 21. According to the 5K Facebook page, only two spaces remained for children who want to participate in this year’s event.
