Snapshot: AnnaMarie Drummond
Family: My husband Jeff; my son Greyson, who’s 7; my daughter McKenna, 4; and my son Declan, 2.
How did you meet your husband? We actually met at a YMCA day camp in Westport when we were teenagers. I was the nature specialist at camp and he was a camp counselor; he’s a year older than me. All of the campers would rotate through my stations, and he was one of the camp counselors. I was dating somebody else at the time, but about four years later we reconnected. I messaged him on Facebook. I don’t remember what prompted it but I remember thinking “Let me see what he’s up to,” and we’ve been together ever since.
Pets: We have two dogs, Lola, who’s 11, and Una, who’s 9.
How long have you lived in Newtown? Seven years. We moved here five days before my son was born, and our house wasn’t even ready yet. We were supposed to be in June 1, but it just kept getting pushed back. We had no mirrors in the house, and we had no yard — my husband bought sod and made a ten by ten patch for the dogs. The day the furniture was delivered, I was in labor. It was a little crazy and chaotic.
Do you have any nicknames? When she was little my cousin would call me Nini, and that stuck.
What do you do for work? I own Serene Baking Co in town. It’s a custom cookie company, and I host cookie decorating classes where I teach how to decorate. I also do corporate orders. I have an edible printer, so I can print edible logos. I design and print my own cookie cutters. I do custom orders for baby showers, bridal showers, birthdays, and other events.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time? I love to walk our dogs, I love to run, and I like to just watch really bad reality TV.
Do you have a favorite podcast? There’s a sugar cookie marketing podcast which talks a lot about marketing strategies and things like that. I do that during my time in the car after drop-off.
What is the best piece of advice you have ever received? Be kind. You never really know what anybody is going through. People can have an off day and that’s not who they are.
Favorite musical genre? I love country music. Walker Hayes is my absolute favorite person to listen to.
What was the most recent concert you went to? Walker Hayes, in Lowell, Mass. It was actually the second time we saw him within a year. We went to see him in Bridgeport over the summer too.
What is something you cannot live without? My phone. I do all of my work on it.
What is your proudest accomplishment? My children. I’ve always wanted to be a mom, and I’ve always wanted three kids. Watching them grow and become kind and empathetic people is what I’m most proud of.
Do you have a favorite travel destination? Newport, R.I. We used to go there a lot pre-children, and we just went there last summer with the three kids and it was so much fun. We love the beaches and we know the restaurants and things to do, so that’s our spot to go.
What is your favorite thing about Newtown? I love the different sections. Everything is so unique. I love to get to drive around. My husband and I recently did our Elf Deliveries, where we dropped off all of the cookies people had ordered from me and my husband was dressed up like Buddy the Elf. We always love it because we get to see so many parts of Newtown that we never really get to see. When you drive regularly you don’t get to see everything but when you slow down and you’re looking for addresses, you find roads and things you didn’t even know existed. It’s so cool getting to see the different parts of town.
Do you have a personal credo? Always assume positive intent. Assume somebody is trying to do the right thing.
