Concert Sunday: Varied Program Being Prepared By Youth Orchestra

RIDGEFIELD — The Ridgefield Symphony Youth Orchestra will present its first concert of new year on Sunday, January 25. The concert, which will begin at 4 pm, will be performed in the auditorium of Veteran’s Park Elementary School, at 8 Governors Street.

Young musicians from Ridgefield, Danbury, Bethel, Danbury, Newtown, Redding and West Redding will perform a varied program of orchestral works by Beethoven (Seventh Symphony, second movement), Haydn (Symphony 104, first movement), Ives (The Unanswered Question), and Copland (Appalachian Spring suite). Newtown student musicians Jeffrey Reinhardt (obot and English horn) and Andrea Reinhardt (flute and piccolo) are on this year’s RSYO roster.

The Youth Orchestra’s string quartet and wind ensemble will also perform.

The orchestra made its debut last May. Critic Courtenay Caublé said, “No other musical event in Ridgefield’s musical season has earned louder bravos or more enthusiastic standing ovations than last Sunday afternoon’s debut concert by the Ridgefield Symphony Youth Orchestra.”

Under the direction of the Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra’s assistant conductor, Ankush Kumar Bahl, RSYO boasts a membership of 46 auditioned musicians between grades six and twelve. The group rehearses weekly. Sectional rehearsals are led by principal members of Ridgefield Symphony Orchestra, the Youth Orchestra’s parent organization.

Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for ages 12 and under. Additional information may be obtained from the Ridgefield Symphony office; call 203-438-3889.
