To Award $1,000 Scholarships
The Connecticut Choral Society is offering its seventh annual scholarship awards to encourage and promote young people who are in choruses in the greater Danbury-Waterbury area. Regional public and private high schools and the Litchfield County Childrenâs Choir have received applications.
Each choral director has been asked to nominate up to three chorus members to compete for the awards. Students can be juniors or seniors in high school.
Application packets are now in their hands and completed forms must be returned to CCS or postmarked by February 21. High school chorus singers are encouraged to apply for these scholarships by contacting their choral director.
Auditions and interviews will be held on April 17 for selected finalists. The competition will be juried by three noted vocal artists and teachers. The winners will be invited to sing at the annual scholarship concert, which will again by presented in Woodbury. This yearâs concert is planned for May 16.
The scholarships will be awarded at the fundraising event which is sponsored jointly by the CCS and The Friends of Woodbury Public Library.
Scholarships are funded through contributions to Connecticut Choral Societyâs Kannengeiser Scholarship Fund.
This year a new award, The James Somers Scholarship, in the amount of $1,000, will also be offered.
