Evading Responsibility
A two-vehicle accident happened about 6 pm January 12 near the intersection of South Main Street and Bear Hills Road in Botsford.
Motorist Matthew Hustava, 29, of Southbury was driving a 2002 Honda Civic sedan southward on South Main Street, when an unknown motorist who was driving an older pickup truck, pulled onto South Main Street and collided with the Honda, police said. The truck driver then drove off. Hustava was not injured.
Police are investigating and ask anyone with information about the identity of the truck driver to contact them at 426-5841.
Nissan Vs Jeep
Motorist Robert Sylvester, 42, of Monroe, who was driving a 2001 Jeep Laredo northward on South Main Street at about 4:20 pm January 15, stopped for traffic near 79 South Main Street and was struck from behind by motorist Luis Rodriquez, 24, of Danbury, who was driving a 1994 Nissan Altima, police said.
Police said there were no injuries. Police issued Rodriquez an infraction ticket on charges of failure to drive a reasonable distance apart and failure to have a driverâs license.
Wasserman Way
During snowy, icy road conditions about 8:30 am January 15 on Wasserman Way, motorist John Coppola, Jr, 39, of Shelton, was stopped on Wasserman Way and was waiting to turn left, when the Dodge was struck from behind by motorist John Masstrobattisto, 61, of Seymour, police said. Police issued Masstrobattisto a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Town Snowplow
At about 10 am January 15, John Ferris, 43, of 33 Pole Bridge Road, who was driving a town-owned 2003 Mack snowplow truck, was traveling eastward on Equestrian Ridge Road, as motorist Robert Cleary, 68, of 34 Greenleaf Farms Road, was driving a 2000 Mercedes ML-3 sport-utility vehicle northward on Greenleaf Farms Road, near its intersection with Equestrian Ridge Road, police said.
The truckâs plow blade then collided with the left side of the of the Mercedes, police said. The Mercedes stopped moving at 16 Equestrian Ridge Road, police said.
Cleary was transported to Danbury Hospital for treatment of unknown injuries. The accident is under investigation, police said.

Intersection Crash
Police report a two-truck accident at the intersection of Walnut Tree Hill Road and Church Hill Road about 6:30 pm January 14.
Motorist Keith Kurt, 47, of Shelton, who was driving a 1992 Nissan pickup truck, was turning left from southbound Walnut Tree Hill Road onto eastbound Church Hill Road, when he collided with motorist William Pendergast, 25, of 23 Riverside Road, who was driving a Newtown Garbage Removal 2001 Chevrolet pickup truck westward on Church Hill Road, police said.
There were no injuries. Police issued Kurt a written warning.
Vandalism Incident
Police report that early on the morning of January 17, Anthony Podpolucha, 21, of Monroe, drove to a parking lot at 113 South Main Street, and on seeing a certain Honda Accord parked in that lot, took a metal folding chair from his vehicle and smashed in the rear window of the Honda.
Police arrested Podpolucha on a charge of second degree criminal mischief. Police released him from custody on a promise to appear in court February 3 to answer the charge.

Bad Check
On January 16, police executed an arrest warrant against Gilbert Collins, 41, of 3 Prospect Terrace, charging him with issuing a bad check. The arrest stems from a past incident. After processing the case, police released Collins on $100 bail for a January 28 court appearance.
Cobblers Mill
Motorist Roberto Jose Do Rego Cavallanti Filho, 28, of Danbury, who was driving a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee westward on Cobblers Mill Road about 6 am January 15, lost control of the vehicle on the snowy road, hit curbing and then struck a tree at 11 Cobblers Mill Road, police report.
Filho was uninjured. Police issued him a misdemeanor summons on charges of driving without automotive insurance, driving without a license, and traveling too fast for conditions. He is scheduled to appear in court January 23.

Hattertown Road
Motorist Bernice Ullmann, 72, of 168 Taunton Hill Road was driving a 2000 Dodge Intrepid northward on Hattertown Road, near Boggs Hill Road, on January 15 during adverse road conditions, when the auto went out of control and struck some bushes along the northbound road shoulder, police said.
The auto then reentered the road and went off the southbound road shoulder, striking a barn at 55 Hattertown Road, before hitting some brush and then coming to a rest, police said. Police issued Ullmann a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Newtown Shopping Village
While in the Newtown Shopping Village parking lot at 6 Queen Street about 2 pm January 16, motorist Yadigar Binal, 56, of Southport, who was driving a 2003 Mercedes S-500, backed into motorist Maryann Moro, 55, of Danbury, who was driving a 2003 Saturn L sedan, police report. There were no injuries or enforcement actions.
Hanover Mishap
Motorist Christopher Cestari, 24, of Brookfield was driving a 1997 Ford Mustang northward on Hanover Road on January 17, when he fell asleep, drifted to the side of the road and struck some safety barriers, after which the auto went down an embankment along the northbound road shoulder, police said. Cestari was not injured. Police issued him a written warning for failure to drive in the proper lane.
Great Hill Crash
Police said that motorist William Jackson, 60, of 181 Sugar Street was driving a Toyota Corolla northward on Great Hill Road on January 17 when he fell asleep, drifted to the right side of the road, climbed an embankment and then struck a utility pole. Jackson was uninjured. Police issued him a written warning for failure to drive in the proper lane.
GMC Vs Honda
Motorist Gene Martin, 32, of Albany, N.Y., was driving a 1997 GMC van southward on South Main Street on January 15, when the vehicle went out of control in icy conditions, resulting in a collision with northbound motorist Paul Gilberto, Jr, 54, of West Haven, who was driving a 2003 Honda CRV, police report.
There were no injuries. Police issued Martin a written warning for driving too fast for conditions.
Ford Vs Deer
Motorist James Croswell, 24, of 4 Willow Brook Lane, who was driving a 2003 Ford F-350 pickup truck northward on Boggs Hill Road near Point Of Rocks Road about 6 pm January 16, when a deer ran onto the road, resulting in a collision, police said.
Croswell was not injured. Police took no enforcement action.
Cadillac Vs Oldsmobile
Motorist Fran Muraszkin, 74, of 2 Spring Road, who was driving a 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass westward on Sugar Street, stopped to make left turn onto Boggs Hill Road at about 5:40 pm January 16, and was struck from behind by a 2002 Cadillac Seville driven by John Martocci, 57, of 4 Pinnacle Drive, police report.
There were no injuries. Police issued Martocci a written warning for following too closely.
Pontiac Accident
While traveling eastward on Mt Pleasant Road, near Tory Lane, about 6 pm January 15, motorist John Meyer, 40, of 36 Marlin Road, who was driving a 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix, encountered a deer that had entered the road and collided with it, police said. Meyer was not injured. Police took no enforcement action.
Saturn Off Road
While headed northward on South Main Street about 2 pm January 15, motorist Elizabeth Zlamany, 71, of 2 Red River Lane, who was driving a 1997 Saturn SL-2, lost control of the auto on the snowy road and went off the northbound road shoulder, striking a sign at 77 South Main Street, police report. Zlamany was not injured. Police issued her a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Honda Collision
Motorist Glenn Peters, 55, of Brookfield was driving a 1999 Honda VCS northward on Hawleyville Road, near North Ridge Drive, about 6 pm January 15, when a deer ran onto the street, colliding with the Honda, according to police. Peters was uninjured. Police took no enforcement.
New Lebbon Crash
Naomi Kim, 19, of 47 High Rock Road, was driving a 1983 Datsun on New Lebbon Road, as Wayne Braun, 20, of 3 High Bridge Road was driving a 2002 Pontiac there in the opposite direction at about noon on January 15, police report.
The Datsun went out of control on the snowy road, resulting in a collision between the two autos, police said. The Datsun then went off the road and hit a tree. Police said there were no injuries. Police issued Kim a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Flat Swamp Mishap
Motorist Eric Meyer, 61, of 94 Taunton Hill Road was driving a 1999 Honda Accord northward on Flat Swamp Road at about 2 pm January 16, when the vehicle went out of control on the snowy road and hit an embankment, police report. Meyer was uninjured, police said.
Nissan Vs Ford
Todd Bokina, 40, of Southbury was driving a 2003 Nissan Pathfinder sport-utility vehicle westward on Church Hill Road at about 9:30 am January 18 , when the vehicle skidded on the snowy road and struck a parked 2002 Ford F-250 pickup truck, police report. Bokina was not injured. Police issued Bokina a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Pine Tree Hill
Motorist Kristen Mezick, 17, of Monroe was driving a 1993 Ford Taurus northward on Pine Tree Hill Road at about 4:15 pm January 15, when the auto went out of control on the icy road, went off the southbound road shoulder and struck a stone wall and a tree, police said.
The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Mezick to Danbury Hospital on a report of head pain, police said. Police took no enforcement.
Church Hill/Queen
 Motorist Thomas Brennan, 67, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2001 Toyota Camry westward on Church Hill Road at about 7 pm January 15, stopped at a traffic signal at Church Hill Roadâs intersection with Queen Street, police said.
Motorist Brian OâDwyer, 56, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2001 Toyota Corolla, then slid on the icy road, crashing into the rear end of the Camry, police said.
There were no injuries. Police verbally warned OâDwyer for following too closely.
Snowplow Collision
Town snowplow driver Richard Paloian, 38, of 119 Alpine Drive, who was driving a 1990 Autocar snowplow/dump truck southward on Toddy Hill Road at about 5:30 am January 12, made a left turn onto Still Hill Road, police said.
In maneuvering during plowing, the Autocar then backed out of Still Hill Road and backed across Toddy Hill Road, police said.Â
At that time, motorist Janice DelMastro, 56, of Monroe, who was driving a 1999 Toyota RAV-4 northward on Toddy Hill Road, collided with the Autocar, police said. Police issued Paloian a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.
Dodge Durango
Motorist Jeffrey Tomascak, 44, of 13 The Old Road was driving a 2001 Dodge Durango sport-utility vehicle northward on Mt Pleasant Road at about 8:40 am January 15, when he turned right onto Blackman Road, police said. The Dodge then slid on the snowy road surface and struck trees and bushes along the southbound road shoulder of Blackman Road, according to police.
Tomascak was not injured. Police issued him a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Flagpole Crash
A two-car accident took place at the Main Street flagpole at about 5:30 pm January 13. Involved in the crash were Lawrence OâBrien, 54, of Danbury, who was driving a 2003 Honda Accord, and Robert Grilley, 19, of Trumbull, who was driving a 1995 Toyota Tercel, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued OâBrien a written warning for passing on the right.
Honda Vs Volkswagen
While traveling southward on South Main Street about 9 am January 15, traffic slowed, and motorist Catherine Plaisted, 35, of New Milford, who was driving a 2003 Honda Accord, applied the brakes, police said.
The Honda went into a skid on the snowy road and struck the rear end of a 1999 Volkswagen Jetta driven by Robert Miller, Jr, 35, of Naugatuck, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Plaisted a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Mercedes Vs Nissan
Motorist Keith Sigler, 21, of Hilton Head, S.C., who was driving a 1996 Nissan Maxima, was slowing down for a vehicle at a motor vehicle accident on Hattertown Road at about 1 pm January 15, when was he was struck from behind by motorist Rene Poirier, 49, of 13 Eden Hill Road, who was driving a 1990 Mercedes 300-E, police said.
There were no injuries. Police issued Poirier a written warning for following too closely.
Toddy Hill Mishap
Motorist Samantha Ueckerman, 17, of 56 Botsford Hill Road, who was driving a 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee sport-utility vehicle northward on Toddy Hill Road, near Vining Road, at about 9 am January 18, went into a skid on the weather-slickened pavement and slid off the road, according to police.
Ueckerman was not injured. Police issued her a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Brushy Hill Crash
Southbound motorist Wendy Audet, 39, of 23 Hoseye Coach Road was driving a 2003 Dodge Caravan near 121 Brushy Hill Road about 3:30 pm January 19, when while negotiating a curve on the slippery, snow-covered road, the Dodge skidded into a northbound 2001 Honda Civic driven by Chantal Thompson, 16, of 16 Sugar Hill Road, according to police.
There were no injuries. Police issued Audet a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
South Main Accident
Police report that southbound motorist Terrence Hammer, 55, of New Milford, who was driving a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee on South Main Street, stopped to make a left turn and was then struck from behind by motorist Ronald Kuhn, 52, of Fairfield, who was driving a 1999 Ford E-250 van, at about 2:45 pm January 15.
There were no injuries. Police issued Kuhn a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Jeremiah Road
Motorist Alexander Rote, 16, of 16 Cobblers Mill Road was driving a 1998 Subaru Forester westward on Jeremiah Road about 2:40 pm January 19, when he lost control of the vehicle and it slid off the left side of the road, police report.
Rote was not injured. Police gave him a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.
Pinnacle Drive
On January 18, police received a report that a snowplow driver had backed into a driveway at 8 Pinnacle Drive in Dodgingtown and smashed into an ornamental lightpost, after which the driver left the scene. Police are investigating and ask anyone who knows the identity of the snowplow driver to contact them at 426-5841 or 270-8888.
Check Charge
Police said that on January 21 they charged Debra Perry, 47, of 24 Toddy Hill Road on a court warrant listing the offense of issuing a bad check. The arrest stems from a bad check for $530 which Perry allegedly issued last May 1, police said. Perry was released on a promise to appear in court February 5.
MV Charge
Motorist Johanna Perez, 22, of Danbury was driving a 1990 Honda Civic southward on South Main Street about 8:10 am January 19, when she attempted to stop for a slowing vehicle, but slid on a patch of ice, went off the side of the road, and struck guard barriers, police said.
Perez was uninjured. Police issued her an infraction ticket for driving without a license.
Buick Hits Tree
Motorist Sandra Burland, 56, of 32 Birch Hill Road, who was driving a 1999 Buick Century eastward on Scudder Road near Route 302 on January 19, lost control of the vehicle on the snowy road on a curve and slid into a tree along the right side of the road, police said. Burland was not injured. Police took no enforcement.
Alberts Hill Collision
Motorist Stuart Ratcliff, 22, of 14 Concord Ridge Road, was driving a 1993 Plymouth Sundance eastward on Alberts Hill Road on the morning of January 19, as motorist Andrew Dutton, 19, of 32 Pond Brook Road was driving a 2002 Saturn L-200 westward there, police said.
The Plymouth failed to stay to the right on a curve and collided with the Saturn, police said. There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Ratcliff for failure to keep to the right on a curve.
