Mr and Mrs Kian Tan

Sarah Luchansky and Kian Tan of Berkeley, Calif., were married August 23 at the Candlewood Inn in Brookfield with Dianne Yamin officiating.

A reception at Candlewood Inn was held following the ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Jeanne and Gene Luchansky of Alder Lane in Sandy Hook.

The groom is the son of Cyndi Rudy and Domingo Tan of Virginia Beach, Va.

The bride was given in marriage by her father,  Gene Luchansky. She wore a wedding dress borrowed from her grandmother, Rachel Palmer. The dress was 63 years old.

Maid of honor was Darcy Wolcott of Boston, Mass., originally from Sandy Hook.

Bridesmaids were the bride’s cousin Brianna Palmer of Jackson, N.J., Kate Heath of Lee, Mass., and Jodi Szarko and Danielle Dube, both of Berkeley.

The attendants wore red satin dresses and carried bouquets of calla lilies and red berries.

Best man was Chris Tan of Virginia Beach.

Ushers were Rori Dajao of Boston, John Collins of Virginia Beach, Ed Reece of Dallas, Texas, and Lex Thomas of Salem, N.C.

Ring bearer was Justin Palmer of Jackson, N.J., cousin of the bride.

The bride attended Newtown High School and Wesleyan University. She is a graduate student in chemistry at the University of California-Berkeley and will receive her PhD in chemistry in May 2004.

The groom attended Catholic High School in Virginia, and the University of Virginia. He is a graduate student in chemistry at the University of California-Berkeley and will receive his PhD in chemistry in May 2004.

After a wedding trip to Kauai, Hawaii, the couple resides in Berkeley, to be followed by a move to Boston where they will both take postdoctorate degrees at Harvard University in 2004.
