Shelby Neveriski and Kelly Fegler combined for 42 points and 26 rebounds as Imagine This defeated The Gyma at Newtown, 56-46, in the Gym at Newtown Womenâs Basketball League.

Amy Mangold had a nice game with five points and two rebounds while Bonnie Willie and Amanda Morini combined for eight points, nine rebounds and two steals for Imagine. For The Gym, Mel Darrah led her team with 15 points while Carolyn Schrieber had a great game with 11 points, seven rebounds, two steals and two blocks. Carolyn Signorelli chipped in with 10 points, two assists, and three rebounds. Sharon McCarthy and Joan Plavnicky combined for 10 points and six rebounds.

Amy Proul scored 22 points (with two three-pointers and 12-of-15 shooting from the free throw line) to lead Newtown Mobil past Denmoâs, 59-50. Lynn Latanzio had a strong game with 12 points and eight rebounds while Karen Katrinak chipped in with 11 points and six rebounds. Charlotte DuBail and Sandy Doski combined for 14 points. For Denmoâs, Jody Rajcula scored 19 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the way. Kim Lowell added 12 points (including two three-pointers) and pulled down seven boards. Holly Ferguson chipped in 11 points and eight rebounds as Laura Cook and Stephanie Trolle combined for eight points and five rebounds.

Maura Keenan scored 18 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead Walsh Logging past Colorgraphix, 54-48. Karen Powell also had a strong game with 16 points, four rebounds and two blocks. Â Denise Passano added 12 points and seven rebounds while Collen Ruiz chipped in four points, two blocks, two steals and two rebounds. For Walsh Logging, Ruth Rowe and Joanne Duncanson combined for 32 points and 14 rebounds. Megan LaCava had a nice game with 10 points, four rebounds and three steals.

In recent action â

Colorgaphix defeated Imagine This, 56-52, as Keenan (29 points, 12 rebounds), Ruiz (12 points, seven rebounds) and Powell (10 points, seven rebounds) led the way. For Imagine This, Neveriski poured in 23 points as Fegler (16 points, eight rebounds) and Marsan (11 points) had strong performances.

Proulx scored 18 points (including a pair of three-pointers) to lift Newtown Mobil to a 46-35 win over Walsh Logging. DuBail added eight points and had a strong defensive game. For Walsh Logging, Rowe and Duncanson combined for 26 points.

Holly Ferguson scored 28 points and grabbed 10 rebounds as Denmoâs defeated The Gym, 70-52. Rajcula (14 points, 19 rebounds) had a strong game. For The Gym, Darrah poured in 26 points as Schrieber (13 points)Â played well.

The voters certainly spoke — and I respect the outcome — but let’s not forget that a “majority” doesn’t mean everyone agreed. Many of us are deeply concerned about the rising cost of living here. Supporting schools and services is important, but so is ensuring that residents can afford to stay in the town they love. We all want Newtown to be a great place to live, but lately, it’s starting to feel less like “Nicer in Newtown” and more like “More Expensive in Newtown.” That’s not sustainable, and it’s not a criticism of the town itself — it’s a call for responsible budgeting and long-term planning that doesn’t rely on tax increases year after year. I hope future decisions will reflect not just the desire to maintain services, but also the need to ease the financial burden on residents.

Budget, Capital Projects Pass: Officials Respond

I appreciate the passion behind this message, and I absolutely understand the desire to invest in our town. That said, I voted no — not because I don't care about Newtown, but because I do. Fiscal responsibility is not about ignoring problems, it’s about making sure we address them in a sustainable and transparent way. It’s frustrating to feel like every year there’s a new “urgent” reason to raise taxes, with little serious effort to curb spending or prioritize needs. I worry this just sets the stage for another round of increases next year. That doesn't mean I’m against education, safety, or our town’s future — it means I believe in accountability and in asking tough questions about how our money is managed. Voting no wasn't a rejection of Newtown — it was a call for more thoughtful, balanced leadership. I hope future conversations can include all perspectives, not just those willing to write a bigger check.

The Voters Chose Newtown

The voters spoke, loud and clear that they support our schools and municipal services. The majority vote was a mandate to keep delivering well rated education services and keep it" Nicer in Newtown."

Thank you LeReine, for speaking out about this. The list of public servants who are unfairly targeted for abuse just for doing their jobs has been growing. It is a testament to the power of propaganda that otherwise good and well-meaning people can get so emotional as to act out in this way.
