Justin Carotti, a 2007 graduate of Newtown High School who is studying social work at the University of North Carolina in Wilmington, was inducted into Phi Eta Sigma in October 2008 and into Phi Alpha in January 2009. Phi Eta Sigma was established in 1923 and is the nation’s oldest honor society for first year college students. To be accepted, students must be in the top 20 percent of their freshman year class and have a minimum 3.7 cumulative grade point average at the end of their freshman year.
