A Horticultural Approach To Carpets

WOODBURY — The Glebe Museum and Gertrude Jekyll Garden is offering a series of winter lectures, which can be attended as a full series or as individual interests.

Rosalind Candlin Benedict will present her lecture, “A Horticultural Approach to Carpets,” on February 18. Ms Benedict’s lecture will explore some of the rich indigenous botanical material found in Turkey, Persia, the Caucasus and India, which can be seen in the often-stylized floral weavings of many colorful village and tribal rugs, as well as in atelier carpets.

On March 18, M.R. Halle will present “Addressing Collections: The Influences of a Pioneer Dealer in Costume and Textile.” Graham Dillamore will conclude the series on April 1 with “The Restoration of the King’s Privy Garden at Hampton Court Palace.”

The first lectures begin at 4 pm. The February 18 and March 18 programs will be held at First Congregational Church; the April 1 lecture will be at St Paul’s Parish House. Both churches are on Main Street (Route 6) in Woodbury.

Tickets for each lecture are $12 each. For reservations and further information, call the Glebe House Museum at 203/263-2855.
