Openings In Choral Society

Newtown Choral Society, under the direction of Mary Andreotta, has announced openings for all voices for its spring concert, “Fables and Folksongs.”

“Wind in the Willows,” a children’s fable set to music by the renowned composer and arranger John Rutter, will be the featured piece.  “Wind in the Willows” is a musical fable that humorously portrays animals with human-like behavior. Based on a short story by Kenneth Grahame, the piece was originally composed as an “entertainment” for the Kings Singers and the London Symphony to perform for a family concert.

Area musicians will also be participating in the spring performance of this piece.

The spring concert will also include “A Fable” by Norman Dello Joio as well as English, Scottish and American folk songs arranged by Sir David Willcox, John Rutter and others.

The choral society welcomes all enthusiastic singers; there are no auditions. The group rehearses Wednesday evenings at Newtown Middle School from 7 to 9 pm. For more information call 426-3769.
