Forum On College Planning, Financing
DANBURY â Newtown State Representative Christopher Lyddy (D), a member of the legislatureâs Education Committee, is urging students and parents to attend College Goal Sunday, a forum on planning and financing for college to be held Sunday, January 29, at various locations around the state, including Danbury.
From 1:30 to 4:30 pm on Sunday, January 29, the WCSU Office of Student Financial Services will be in the ballroom of the Westside Campus Center on the universityâs Westside campus, 43 Lake Avenue Extension. College-bound high school seniors and their families will receive assistance from financial aid professionals in completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form online. College staff will also be available to speak with families during that time.
Rep Lyddy said that participating in College Goal Sunday gives students and their families a great first step on the pathway to college. It gives the students and families an opportunity to learn about preparing for college and financial aid in a comfortable setting, he added.
In the single afternoon session, students and their families can become familiar with college entrance requirements, learn about planning for college and obtain onsite assistance in filling out financial aid applications. In addition, there will be information about the benefits of attending college, student support services, areas of study and different degree programs. Spanish interpreters will be available.
College Goal Sunday is a volunteer charitable effort to assist low-income families and those who are the first in their families to attend college. The FAFSA forms are required to qualify for college financial aid nationwide.
