Mary Rose Tremblay, 89, of Newtown, died peacefully at her home, January 21, after a short illness. She was born October 22, 1922, in the city of Chicoutimi, in the Province of Quebec, Canada. She was the youngest of nine children born to Mathilde and Emile Morin.
In July 1951, Mary and her husband, Paul, emigrated from Montreal to Danbury, ultimately settling in Newtown where they raised their nine children together. Mr Tremblay passed away in 1993 after 48 years of marriage. After his death, Mrs Tremblay was able to remain in her home under the devoted care of her daughter Liz and her family.
In addition to being a loving, caring wife and mother, Mrs Tremblay was gifted with many talents, including sewing, knitting, crochet, needlework, and other creative projects, and raising houseplants. Her greatest passion however, was painting landscapes. She was an accomplished artist and her numerous paintings are a tribute to her ability to see and capture the beauty of nature and transfer it to the canvas. Her children, grandchildren, and friends will treasure these works forever.
After retiring with her husband, she enjoyed taking classes and socializing at the Newtown Senior Center. She was also an avid reader. Having grown up in a totally French-speaking area of Canada, she taught herself how to speak and read in English and within a few years of residing in the United States, she was fluent in the language of her new country.
Mrs Tremblay had a strong faith in God and had an active prayer life until the end. Having a warm and gentle spirit, she made friends easily and will be missed by many.
She is survived by her nine children and their spouses, Lorraine and Eugene Sweeney, Steve Tremblay, Alain Tremblay, Diane and Paul Badger, Richard and Elaine Tremblay, Susan Tremblay, Kenneth Tremblay, Elizabeth and Thomas King, and Michael and Tammi Tremblay. She also had 13 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours were scheduled at the Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown, on Thursday, January 26, from 4:30 until 6 pm. Funeral services and interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Western Connecticut Home Care, 4 Liberty Street, Danbury CT 06810 or the Regional Hospice and Home Care, 405 Main Street, Danbury CT 06810.
