Newtown Resident Among

The Vivid Characters In Center Stage Production Of ‘Guys And Dolls’

SHELTON — Newtown resident Brett Boles is currently starring as Sky Masterson in Guys and Dolls at Center Stage Theatre.

Mr Boles has previously performed with Center Stage in High Society as C.K. Dexter Haven and most recently in Harvey as Dr Lyman Sanderson. He is a member of the BMI Lehman Engel Musical Theater Workshop in New York City as well as a presenting member in the Advanced Writer’s Lab at the New Opera and Musical Theater Initiative in Boston, MA.

Guys and Dolls is directed by Center Stage founders Gary and Francesca Scarpa. Now in its seventh season, Center Stage is a successful, non-profit  theatre. The Scarpas recently relocated the theatre to the former Lafayette School, at 54 Grove Street. The theatre produces six full-scale productions per year.

Guys and Dolls, with music by the immortal Frank Loesser, opened on Broadway in 1950 and won five Tony Awards including Best Musical. A 1992 revival of the musical won 11 Tony Awards, including Outstanding Revival of a Musical. Hollywood presented a film adaptation in 1955 which starred Marlon Brando, Jean Simmons, Frank Sinatra, and Vivian Blaine.

Set in Damon Runyon’s mythical New York City, Guys and Dolls soars with the spirit of Broadway as it introduces us to a cast of vivid characters who have become legends: Sarah Brown, the upright but uptight “doll”; Sky Masterson, the slick, high rolling gambler; Adelaide, the nightclub performer, engaged to the same man for 14 years; and Nathan Detroit, her devoted fiancé. Musical highlights include “Luck Be A Lady Tonight,” “A Bushel and a Peck,” “Sit Down You’re Rockin’ the Boat” and the play’s title song.

“Sky Masterson is a role I have always wanted to play,” said Mr Boles, who graduated from Ithaca College in 2007. “Singing these wonderful Frank Loesser songs is a pleasure.”

Center Stage’s production of Guys and Dolls also features Mia Scarpa as Sarah Brown, Marc Garofalo as Nathan Detroit, and Sarah Cameron Nizzardo as Miss Adelaide.

Guys and Dolls opened January 20, and continues Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm through February 11; with Sunday matinees at 2 pm on January 29 and February 5.

Tickets — $25 for adults, $10 for students — can be reserved by calling 203-225-6079 or visiting CenterStageShelton.com.
